There are some rumours that the next update for Windows8.1 will bring back the startmenu. released a screenshot how it will look like herefav.me/d7cs0r0This is not a concept. It is a working skin for Vistart.
Unzip the file. Place the complete folder in the skins folder of Vistart. Open the languages folder and rename the english language file to whatever you want. Don't delete it. Place the included language file in the languages folder.
For use with other skins undo the change of the language file.
If you don't have Vistart already, get it herelee-soft.com/vistart/
It is free software.

This may be a little late, but, Imma shoot anyway!
I've been using your skin for a couple of days now, to get the old look and feel, and No matter what I do, I can't seem to get the words to move down / away. They are always in the middle left of the tile. If you have any suggestions, that would be awesome!

I've been looking through your gallery. These start menus look really cool. Is there any way you can make a skin for Windows 10 users? The menu that comes with Windows 10 lacks some customization and is not as appealing to me. I miss having a white frame and search bar in the menu, and each column is limited to three large tiles. I wanted to try this out, but ViStar doesn't work on Windows 10.

Vistart should work on Windows 10. Gonna try it tomorrow. It is not possible to make more than one column with Vistart. Sorry.

I just tried to install Vistart from 2 sources, the one you provided and another site, both gave me a major virus....took over 2 hours to recover my computer......

I think after what I've read by MercuryX I think this is a 100% avoid for me. Please provide a safer means of downloading this software. I'd rather not take the risk.

I think you are not very familiar with customization stuff. Vistart is one of the most famous customization tools, and is used by millions of users since 2006. Lee, the programmer publishes it with his own full name.
My link leads to his original website. What can be safer than getting stuff from the producer himself?

Thats exactly what it'll look like in Update 2. But *shrug* I'll wait for Update 2 to get it. I got enough stuff that boots at startup...I don't need yet another startup application....

It's really the best theme I have ever seen! Hope I was able to make this much awesome stuff. I am a great fan of your deviations and you were my inspiration for starting my deviantart account. I'm just 14 and my summer holidays just started, so I am planning to make iOS 7 theme pack. These are the things that I am including in it :

Thank You for your reply. Your theme looks just like Mac and its really cool! But the thing that i am doing here is really different; iOS 7 is a smartphone OS by Apple, which means it is not at all for PC but I fount the look of iOS 7 really cool and I wanted that look on my PC which is totally different from Mac. Still I can get some inspiration from it, thanks for the advice!

This is a great skin, and i got to love how quickly you pulled up a working concept merely days after the screenshots were leaked. Good job!
Regarding the rumours themselves.... it is a shame, because actually, Windows behaves perfectly without a start menu. Windows + Q for searching Applications, Windows+W for Settings and Windows+F for file search. And you can awlays invoke the windows explorer or the run command with the usual commands

You are right Windows8 doesn't really need a startmenu. Except of the keyboard shortcuts you mentioned, you can also rightclick the startorb to get a almost complete startmenu. It's only text, no images, but it has almost all the normal user needs. I think the return of the startmenu has only economical reasons. A lot of people don't accept Windows8 in its actual look. It is only a try to keep these people. Money rules as always.
For me Windows8 works fast and stable, and that is what interests me most.

Well, i don't know about the start menu hybrid thing on the default Windows 8.1 as i am stuck with Windows 8.0 ( because there's an application that apparently does not work, not even on compatibility mode, and that's MS's fault for not updating or adapting one of the modules it needs ) but i have to agree that Windows 8 works flawlessy and literally perfect, hell, you just need to click the desktop icon when the computer loads and that's it, classic envorinment.

und was win 8 betrifft ich werde mal darüber nach denken es mal für längere zeit zu testen
das problem was ich mit win 8 habe sind diese in meinen augen hässlichen kacheln mit denen kann ich mich nicht wirklich anfreunden
aber mal sehen was die zeit so bringt vieleicht gewöhne ich mich ja mit der zeit daran
