Just a novel elaboration on the design: upon measurement, the berth on set came up bit short (unless one is rather small in stature, or really fancies a more upright position for sleep) so I lengthened the bunk a bit, but also kept the opening size more or less unchanged to fit the wall, so some taper at the ends resulted. As for the coffin shape of the mattress, that is more an aesthetic choice to better indicate intended sleeping direction, born of how I am treating the officers' beds.

That shape makes sense if it is common for things to be on the cold side: It's pretty much a semi-mummy sleeping bag in form, so it would be warmer than simply having a basic rectangle.
