Josie was always a bit weird in her preferences. When a high-profile genetics company began selling human body mods, she went whole hog and changed herself into something barely human. She now regrets that decision due to the resulting plummet in her social life and especially she has not yet been able to get enough money to be changed back.

I agree with Sucheran-Fan . We need Josie to be colored. I have a color suggestion, Josie's human skin was fair, and hair was redhead. Also her scorpion body can camoflauge in sand. I got a belated story suggestion, that Josie was a scorpion gal, that in the end, she was cheered up by her human boyfriend.

Nice pic.
Incidentally, scorpion people appear in ancient Mesopotamian mythology, where they are called Girtablilu. There is also an ancient Egyptian goddess called Selket who is part scorpion.
Perhaps your characters story could involve a "mythological beings are real" type of scenario, and she could be descended from scorpion people of the ancient Near East.

Well, I'll be darned, they actually have a name, the Girtablilu, created by Tiamat to wage war and stand guard outside the gates of Shamash. Now I have plenty of interesting ideas for future stories for them. Thanks for the info!

I've long been fascinated with ancient mythology, and have familiarised myself with various mythological creatures, including ones that aren't all that well known (e.g. the Girtablilu).

There are plenty of mythological creatures that get very little time in the spotlight.
Here's just a few examples:
-Ugallu: lion men from Mesopotamian mythology.
-Aswang: dark winged vampiric demons with backward facing feet, from Philippine mythology.
-Selkies: beings from Irish folklore that were women who could transform into seals (or seals that could transform into women depending on how you look at it).
-Pookas: man-faced demon horses from Irish mythology.
-Amemait: a creature from Egyptian mythology with the tail and snout of a crocodile, body of a hippo and mane and legs of a lion. It ate the souls of people who'd lived corrupt lives.
-Abatwa: tiny people from Zulu mythology, who rode ants.
-Encantado: a being from Brazilian mythology that is normally a river dolphin or a sea snake but can take human form.
-Vetala: a vampiric bat person monster from Hindu mythology.
-Basically every single thing from Japanese mythology. Japanese myths tell of all sorts of strange things like fire-breathing roosters, corpse-eating bipedal rabbits, living silk ribbons, giant monster sea cucumbers, skeletal whales, women with mouths in the back of their heads and many, many, many more too numerous to mention.
-Early depictions of angels. Before the winged humanoid image created by medieval artists, angels came in all sorts of unusual forms like bestial headed four winged beasts, six winged serpent dragons, flying wheels with eyes on the rim, and so on.
Those are just a few examples. The number of lesser known mythological creatures is simply immense.

Very nice, how about this for a story, Josie was a pretty girl who just got out of a relationship with a guy who just liked her for her looks, depressed about never finding someone to love her for herself, she visited an old antique shop and bought a necklace that would help her find true love.

the reason it looks better like this is because the human arms kind of count towards the proper limb count, so it parses right.

I kinda like the idea that she was born a scorpion girl near a desert, maybe near the Sierra Nevada or Sahara, and had a "mother figure" for a while, but she passed away (maybe a few months before this picture). She wants to meet with others, but feels she'll either be rejected by society or treated like a test subject. However, she does encounter a man in her life, perhaps a wildlife expert or an archaeologist and she is shy to talk with him but she begins to warm up slowly to him.

I'd treat her like a person so long as she kept that stinger-tail wrapped. XP
Hm. Story...
How about...
She was a normal girl, who could never approach the person she fancied in the town - whichever boys they were. She would always shy away or avoid talking entirely, making her seem wierd or creepy when she would just loom, etc. So, to try and fix it - she went to a local magic brewer for some kind of potion for it. It was closed and she seemed distressed, so an old woman approached kindly to lend her an ear. After the crone had heard her problem, the woman scorned her. She was never that pretty and the girl was spoilt with just about every part of her life being so easy and carefree.
The old woman cursed her with a body that looks exactly how she feels, only to be broken by the one person who could accept her truely in love. Though she wasn't cast out of society and dispised (her parents, influencial, were able to make it obvious she were the victim) and the witch was hunted down in fear and revenge. The last chance for her curse, she is now doomed in mind and body from being unable to approach the people she likes.
