Description Why do I stink at painting? XD I do not know. Heavy critique would be appreciated, even if this is only fanart.

Never done a full-blown Pokemon fanart before... but I felt inspired by a Wartortle doodle I did recently on my school papers. I like Wartortle a lot, and I wish I'd been able to do a better job with him... I don't really like how this turned out at all. Oh well, more practise needed!

Ghastly, Mew, Ninetails... uhmmmm and I like way too many to only choose three more. XD I like psychic/dark/ghost and fire types the most.

I'm not *too* much of a Cubone fan... but Abra's pretty cool. I like a lot of the non-classics to but I can't name them as easily...

I love Archanine *_* Maybe later? I'm trying to get art and comics done before I leave for Finland. Let me finish the things I know I need to get done first.

This is awesome, and it's not just a copy of warturtle, it's your interpretation in your style, and it's awesome!

I love all the detail in it and the composition and the wavy ... thing on top ^^ (dunno what it is, I don't know the pokemons)

Yes, Wartortle! The best out of the Squirtle line. It’s perfect for your inking style: full scales and curling feather-y things...

As for criticism, I agree with what the others have said. Some green would be nice, especially on the rocks since the light patterns that occur underwater are pretty crazy. Which is why I haven’t tried drawing water in forever. <_<

Yeah! This really wasn't supposed to be underwater so I didn't even think of the light patterns. XD I just wanted it to be a very limited colour scheme. Maybe one day I'll get the hang of painting... and then I'll try underwater light patterns. >.>

I would like to compliment that style you have for hair and tails. I probably have before, but it's really effective, and I love it so much! I also really like the shell that you created. It has a very awesome feel to it. It's neither 3-D or 2-D, in my opinion. Maybe somewhere in the middle? And the effect made by painting over black ink is really good.

I don't think you stink at painting.
I wonder if, since this is an underwater scene, the light coming down from above would cast a shade of a warmer color on the edges of Wartortle's body and head? An orangey-yellow or something complementary to the blue that you used? I see that you used some purple, and I would've like to see how it would look if more purple were used to enhance his body! Or perhaps his shadows?

And on a side note, the arm on the right seems slightly flatter than the rest of his body. Maybe that's just me, though.

I hope I don't come off as though I'm bashing it. I really do like this!

Ahaha, don't you mean "super" effective? *is shot for making lame pokemon joke* ahem. Thanks! I kinda stink at the whole "hair actually has 3 dimensions" part, but I'm sure if I keep practising I'll eventually improve on that too!

True! I think I scared myself with colour and chickened out from applying different kinds of colour.

Sorry I replied so late. I had a long reply typed out and I accidentally navigated away from the page and couldn't drive myself to rewrite it all.

I actually really love your style of doing hair! Which means that heads are going to roll if you change it! It's really quite unique and interesting. Even if it's not fully 3D, I think it suits your style of drawing and painting.

I definitely see the resemblance between those ink dragons that you drew and the shell! I just adore it.

His head should be a bit rounder. It seems a bit ovular than round. As for the color, a touch of green. The blue just sets if off somehow. And I'm not saying that because my favorite color is green--I love blue just as much. But, that much blue makes it almost appear purple.

Yeah! I see what you mean. And there actually is a little bit of intentional purple in there. I was using my 1999 Pokemon Official Handbook for the colouring in which Wartortle's colouring has a tinge of violet to it. I think green would have been a good idea!

I keep ruling out that colour because I don't like it. XD I think it would have been good here though.

Even if i try, i don't think i can come up with any kind of critique on this. I like the way you painted it, especially the splatterey look. The only thing i can think of is maybe if you had added a little green for that more aquatic look? I love the line work, as always you make me jelly. I hope you consider drawing more pokemon as cool as this!
