Description Bloodbending bros were adopted! I only have a Korra left up on etsy: www.etsy.com/ca/listing/191389…

I have mixed feelings about Tarrlok (more about that below)... But I finally decided to make him because his bro threatened me I wanted to make another joke display for CCMontreal-- the Amorralok ship!

Here's a comic-montage of this OT3: pheleon.tumblr.com/post/311765…
(I must admit, I'm not that big on Amorralok...but it'll hopefully rile people up at the con, lol.)

Tarrlok has funny hair, so that was mildly entertaining to make. And I love Water Tribe garb!

--!SPOILER/RANT about Legend of Korra!---

An open letter to Tarrlok,

I have mixed feelings about you because...well, although your final scene was very well executed, I can't help but feel that the path of redemption is through LIFE and not death. So Tarrlok, as much as the average viewer might think you pulled a Snape on us, and that you're a saviour for getting rid of the "bad" guy...well, you don't convince me in the least. Because death is the cowardly, easy way out. And frankly, since you made that choice, I must agree with Noatak: you are weak.

Best wishes,
-- pheleon

Tarrlok you completed him <3 very nicely done!

I very much agree with the conclusion between the brothers...I get it Noatak was 'evil' but it sounded like on the boat he legitimately wanted to start over. I'm not sure how i feel about both of them being 'blown up' and 'dying' because in ATLA even Azula crazy psycho like she was never died, and neither did Ozai for that matter, the main villains in the series.

Deep down I don't think the two are dead. Maybe will turn into a Zuko thing and come back as helpers to the avatar gang but I just felt their ending...so sad but so not necessary. Noatak didn't need to 'die' and neither did Tarrlok o.o like what did that accomplish besides lowering my opinion of Tarrlok further. :/

pheleon In reply to PolyMune [2012-09-20 16:44:21 +0000 UTC]

I don't know if this makes me a horrible person (or just very forgiving) but I didn't even think that Noatak was 'evil'-- indeed terrorism is wrong and his extreme actions were deplorable, but they're not completely unfounded and I can't help but feel that he's just misguided, instead of inherently evil. Despite my bias towards 'death not being the solution', I don't mind him and Tarrlok dying, but I wanted it to be at the hands of Korra.

Ahhh, I wish they'd come back as helpers/mentors for the avatar gang, but it's really unlikely. On the flip side, that's what fanfiction is for and we've got some pretty awesome writers in fandom! And they won't screw it up like Bryke (potentially) could.

I'm with you on the whole dying thing -- He finally got cool and then goes and blows himself up.. >< I was like seriously man? I really thought Noatak was going to be a later returning villain.. I thought it would've been a cool twist but nope, they both died --'

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to Higginstuff [2012-09-17 21:00:46 +0000 UTC]

Water Tribe~~

I wanted Korra to properly face her fear and actually defeat ONE of the villains. I mean, she was definitely the catalyst between both fights, but Tarrlok sorta lost the moment he bloodbent, and then his bro finished him off by taking away his bending. As for Noatak, Tarrlok revealed everything to Korra and then blew up the boat. The brothers totally just destroyed eachother. *facepalm*

So nope, no more of the same villains. I remember Bryke announcing when season 2 was official that each season was going to have a standalone plot, with a seperate villain. I was therefore hoping that the bloodbrothers would redeem themselves, and come back for potential guidance to the avatar-- cuz they're both masterminds. But nope, NONE.

(maybe if we kick up enough of a fight, Bryke will let them come back as spirits in season 3&4? Ahhh, how can they get rid of such epic villains!)

DameNosferatu [2012-09-09 23:49:09 +0000 UTC]

I love slimy villains/villainesque individuals (hence the Tahno obsession), so I'm rather fond of Tarrlok. XD But I agree with your opinion on his actions. Not to mention that as a result we've now been robbed of more Noatak - we did not see nearly enough of his gorgeous face!

Also, stop selling all the plushies I want at the cons I can't attend. Life-ruiner.

The new plush design is really growing on me. I love everything you've made for Avatar and LoK.

pheleon In reply to DameNosferatu [2012-09-17 20:49:05 +0000 UTC]

That's a great adjective: slimy. My mixed feelings for Tarrlok stem from the fact that I also like the slime, but his actions were just too cowardly for my taste. And as much as I love Amon's mask, Noatak's face is just.......... Bryke, give us MOAR!

Stop running off to Switzerland! (and come to AN next year!)

I wish I was in Switzerland right now. Uni is slowly crushing the fragile remains of my academic soul into a miserable, disenchanted pulp.

I am definitely not going to miss out on Anime North two years in a row. I take it you're planning on going again as well?

I'm sorry the new plush pattern isn't working out. But you've got to do what makes you happy. If only your lycra supply could be never ending.

I think a lot of us wish to be in switzerland right now. Hang in there! University has a tendency of crushing souls, but it's all worth it in the end.

Yup, I'll attend the con even if I don't get a table... but that's judging that my friends are going (which they usually do). I might even cosplay.

I'm actually excited to post up the pattern for purchase! I quite proud of the design and I don't mind sewing it, but just not for commissions. Yeahhh, I wish they didn't discontinue my lycra fabric.

Nice hair! Love the jacket too.

I agree with your stance on Tarrlok. Snape redeemed himself because he spent years working against Voldemort, not because he died. Tarrlok died before even trying to make amends, which was kind of disappointing. :/

Love SO much! Look at how hot these brothers are together! He is done so perfectly from his funny hair to his silk socks (or whatever they are in the show). Please let us know how the Amorralok ship fairs at the con...bwahaha

And I agree, from the very beginning to the very end, Tarrlok chose the coward's way. I never saw it as a "Snape-like" heroic death. To me, it seemed like two brothers who were so depressed that death seemed to be the only way out.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to ChalkTwins [2012-09-17 20:39:15 +0000 UTC]

The Amorralok ship sorta passed unnoticed cuz there were too many casual fans! (most people didn't know what shipping was, lol) Some people only thought it was Amorra with a wild Tarrlok in the mix.

Good to hear that I'm not the only one thinking that Tarrlok's actions weren't heroic in the least. I agree, they just seemed depressed and chose death as the solution.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChalkTwins In reply to pheleon [2012-09-18 04:52:20 +0000 UTC]

What!? How do you go to a con and not know what shipping is? Isn't shipping why people watch shows? Well, I guess that tends to happen with larger conventions; there are more casual people who just want to stop in and see what the fuss is about. I keep going back and forth between whether I like smaller or larger cons. But I gotta say, I love that small cons really feel like a community and the attendees usually seem a lot more excited to be there and geek out

I'm sorry the con wasn't better for you, but I totally think your Team Avatar is worth $100 each. Which reminds me, I might have you put my name on your commission list for open spots. I haven't decided what I would commission yet but I want one of your creations for sure!

pheleon In reply to ChalkTwins [2012-09-20 15:37:17 +0000 UTC]

I know, eh? lol I tend to forget that fandom language isn't known by everyone!
I guess the best is the middle-sized cons? It still has that community aspect, but it's large enough to have lots of variety.

I'm actually not fussed about the little sales; I'm more dissapointed in the lack of rabid fans at the con. Cuz for once, I'm really enthusiastic about a fandom and I wanted to spazz with other people!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChalkTwins In reply to pheleon [2012-09-20 20:35:27 +0000 UTC]

Haha, exactly! And sometimes I have to make a conscience effort to not say fandom words around my family. Heck, it took them a long time to understand what I meant when I said manga and anime

But yeah, I like middle-size (like around 4000-6000 people). And I get that about being excited about a fandom...it makes it 100x better when you get to talk about the minutiae of a show with other people in person! I think that's what makes Avatar such a great series. You can really dig into and find a lot of interesting nuances.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to ChalkTwins [2012-09-26 16:02:41 +0000 UTC]

lol! Maybe you should slowly slip in the fandom words with your family...get them acquainted little by little, until one day, they're fully fluent. Though I must confess: I can't always keep up with the tropes and acronyms for stuff. (but urban dictionary solves all the problems!)

Agreed. Meeting fans in person is really special. On the net, it's really cool but somewhat detached, so when you meet someone in person that's spazzing about the same weird stuff, it's like, omg, they exist in real life! I'm not alone, lol!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChalkTwins In reply to pheleon [2012-09-26 20:58:56 +0000 UTC]

A very good idea! It's like learning a new language, they might get it eventually. I really can't keep up with it all either. Especially with shipping names...I have to sit and think about some of them for a while ("who the heck are they trying to pair with that name??" ) . And yeah, sometimes, I just smile and nod at people and then try to look up what they were talking about later. I think people have to realize that there are general terms that most are familiar with, but then there specific ones that you really have to be a part of that fandom to understand.

But unless I am at a con, it is, unfortunately, really hard to meet people who like what I like. So when I do, I usually get really excited! So much fun XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to ChalkTwins [2012-10-07 15:51:18 +0000 UTC]

Oh ship names, I won't even go there...especially when it's from a series that I don't even follow. But most of the things from ATLA/LOK are pretty obvious.

lol, I don't think I've ever met anyone in an ordinary RL situation that liked anime...aside from this one friend that I met in college. We talked about everything except that, until about 6 months in our friendship, the topic finally cropped up! It's like...we both assumed that no one likes it, so we just never mentioned it. o_0

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChalkTwins In reply to pheleon [2012-10-08 17:04:41 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! But yeah, the ones from ATLA and LOK are pretty easy to understand.

That's so sad but at least you found one person (even if it was after 6 months)! I have only met a handful of people who have the same interests as me (mainly Harry Potter and anime) IRL and it is always so funny how randomly it comes up. I know I shouldn't care, but one of the main reasons I never bring up my interests to real people is because it seems like most people judge me for liking anime still. Heck! Even my friends who like anime judge me for really liking "popular" anime like Bleach and FMA. And that's why I turn to conventions and the internet!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to ChalkTwins [2012-10-19 16:42:28 +0000 UTC]

Gah, it sucks being judged. I usually don't mention anime because there's no point talking about it when someone isn't part of the fandom; they just won't understand. However, I have met a number of people who are genuinely curious about it...and then they ask too many questions that it becomes tiring to answer. o_0
But wow, being judged for liking 'popular' anime? I didn't know there were hipsters in the anime community, lol!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChalkTwins In reply to pheleon [2012-10-19 19:16:46 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I haven't really come across people who ask too many questions. I feel like if you have questions...you should just go watch stuff until your questions are answered (TV Tropes is usually a helpful resource too ) That's how I learned anyway. What would they ask?

hahaha, I know!! I was apparently surrounded by hipsters when my friend and I were first getting into anime. My friend was looking for good shows to start out with and she asked another girl in my dorm if FMA was any good. She responded, "Well, it's popular..." I don't like shows because they are popular, I like them because they are good!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to ChalkTwins [2012-10-24 01:19:47 +0000 UTC]

One of my brother's friend was just really curious about the series that I like... I'm kind of tight lipped on these things because I'm generally seen as an intellectual person, so explaining that I read trashy shoujo manga isn't quite easy, lol. I think it was more of a situation where the person wants to know what I like; they're not so much interested in the show itself, but they just want to get to know me better...and I dunno, guilty pleasures aren't particularly something that I like to talk about. (not refering to anime, but moreso for fanfiction.)

Oh gosh, just arrggh. That's SO annoying. Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's bad. I must admit, some things are overrated and everyone has their own taste, but one should never dismiss something on the basis of its popularity. Damn hipsters!

(but on that note, I really should watch FMA cuz I heard so many good things about it!)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChalkTwins In reply to pheleon [2012-10-24 06:32:24 +0000 UTC]

Ahhh, I totally get that. I have guilty pleasures that I don't like to discuss much either (and fanfics are definitely one of them...and The Borgias on Showtime ). But just because you're intellectual doesn't mean that you shouldn't be allowed to indulge in some fanfic or shoujo.

Exactly! Some shows are very overrated in my opinion, but I'm not going to bash people for liking it. Honestly, I think that's why so many people like anime; there is really something for everyone. So if someone likes mecchas and someone else likes phycological dramas, everyone can all hug and get along together at a convention.

And yes! I would totally recommend FMA (FMA Brotherhood at least is what I've seen). It took me a while to get used to the mangaka's style but it is a really well told story about family and redemption.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pheleon In reply to ChalkTwins [2012-10-25 16:58:18 +0000 UTC]

True, being pegged as 'intellectual' shouldn't confine anyone from enjoying pop culture (and I certainly don't let anything stop me from liking what I want to like!). It just sucks that fanfiction has a bad rep because of 50 shades of grey.

That's definitely one of the beauties of anime: it's so diversed in its genres! It's great to see people come together at cons.

I'll definitely give FMA a read!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ChalkTwins In reply to pheleon [2012-10-29 19:07:44 +0000 UTC]

I agree. No one should tell others what is and is not OK to enjoy. I haven't read a lot of fanfiction but I have come across a few that are incredibly written, and it leaves in awe of people's talent of storytelling. But most people think of fanfiction as 50 shades of grey, like you said, or My Immortal...aka trash.

Yay! You will have to let me know what you think of it!
