Description This was taken on a tiny beach near Cabo da Roca (Malhada do Ouriçal ). [link]

It was a headache to reach this spot. I mean, to get there was kind of easy, difficult was to get back to the car

It was about 19:00pm when me and *dzian got there, it was high tide.

I wasn´t happy with the photos I was getting. The beach was really small, and with so many gorgeous things to capture. It seemed like the Sigma 10-20 wasn´t wide enough to capture all in one photo, so all the compositions I was getting weren´t good.

I even manage to get myself hit by a wave, and got my camera, lens, tripod... everything all wet. Spend many time cleaning all the stuff before getting ready to shoot again.

Almost before the end of the shooting session, I decided to climb a big rock formation to try to achieve a better angle, or at least a different one because I was not happy with the results I was getting. It was a bit dangerous climbing up there, because the sea was so agitated and enormous waves were hitting the rock formation I was standing... [link] [link]

Technique:
- I used a Cokin GND 4 to achieve a better tonal range between the sky and the sea.
- Tripod
- Shutter cable
- GND4 filter inverted and shaken just above the sea level

The shutter speed selected was in order to register the water/waves movement. It was not too long, because I didn´t wanted the normal "mist" effect. At least not so intense.

Hit the shutter button when a big wave crashed against the rock in the middle.

Post-processing:
Used PSCS3 - Levels, unsharp mask, watermark tittle.
In the beginning I wanted to join two or more photos, to achieve the best tonal range possible. But somehow I don´t like to use HDR´like techniques because I think getting the final result with one click is better (at least for me, and for my kind of work. Wanting to improve our selves is always good I think..)

But unfortunately, the rocks became a bit darker because of the filter, so I used the doge tool to bright them up a bit. But as you can easily see, the quality of the textures was all lost.

I reduced the noise a bit, because I shot at ISO 400. And at that ISO level in long exposures the noise becomes much more visible.

Why I selected ISO400? Because I forgot to change it before climbing that rock... Another damaged photo because of my distraction...

But I wanted to upload it anyway. It was a good photo session and I wanted to share with you what was I presented with this afternoon

Wow, very nice photo man, it's pretty good considering all of the misfortunes . Altho i really do wonder, how did you got there from your car and where did you leave the car?

Portugal is really on my toplist and i'm really thinking of going there this vacation, so i really want to learn anything i can to get some of these gorgeos shots .

First of all, the picture is awesome. I love the rock formation and the angle. great work.

Then I'd like to thank you for your help on the filters. you really were a big help. Thanks!
can't wait to try them.

Also thank you for the infos about the techniques of your pictures. Got to try the "Shake-the-filter" thingy.

Keep it up!

mas digo-te ja.. VALEU A PENA

Abraços keep it up
