Description Photo taken at Adraga - Portugal

I took this one one day before the photo "Apocalipse".

A Sunday I think. Went to the beach with *dzian to take some waterscape photos.

This was taken at the end of the day, just before it started to rain pretty hard.

The spot my tripod was mounted was very dangerous because the strong waves were witting the rocks hardly! Lost my favorite sandal shooting this one lol.

Technique:
Used a shutter remote cable
A cokin (P) GND4

The darker part of the filter was placed in the right side of the lens because that was the spot with most light.

Post-processing:
PSCS3 levels, increased saturation 9%, Unsharp Mask, Watermark tittle.

P.S.: I had submitted this photo to flickr first. Didn´t upload to DA because I thought this one is not so good or at least the way I intended to be. But *dzian said it looked ok, so here it is.

superb.

just one thing, it seems like the gnd4 was slightly to much for the sea, maybe you could've brightened it in photoshop.

Yep.. it´s an idea.. But I did this one for fun.. the right side is much darker than the left one..is not to give the idea of a natural and "what you see" photo.. it was made for fun like using red filters on the sky etc. Thanks for the comment

Fantastic shot! I really like that you placed the ND grad filter in the right side of the photo. In addition to that you neutralized the highlight clipping on the right side it also makes the photograph more dynamic. Great job!

very nice, for you!

*me wants a GND filter set*

I see you have a sigma 10-20mm: how the lens works with GND filters? you have to use just one filter or you can stack more than one? and what about vignetting?

Thanks

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PhilipMatthews In reply to francescovilla [2008-10-22 23:31:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much Francesco. GND filters work well with wide angle lens. I recommend you to use square filters like the ones Cokin sells, and to buy the Z series. I use the P series that are smaller that the "Z" versions. Using the Z Cokin filters and placing them on the filter holders, and because they´re wider, the filter holder will not appear on the photo when shooting on 10mm focal range.

When I mentioned Cokin is because the filter brand I use, But you have so much more brands, ones more expensive then the others. The Cokin filters are the most used by amateur photographers because they are not that much expensive and the result is quite good. But you have other brands that make filters with better material, and if you want to take photography more serious and give about 100$ for a filter go ahead they truly are great filters (Lee for example).

Vignetting will appear when shooting at 10mm, not that much, but its there.
Oh and almost forgot, yes you can stack about 3 or 4 filters in the filter holder. I recommend not to use more then 2 at the same time because you´re putting glass in front of the lens and that will damage the quality of the photo

Take care mate

Thanks Andy. It really is a great beach to photograph due to its great rock formations. Today I went to Cabo da Roca, and went down the cliff to a tiny beach on the left side of the lighthouse. I´ll upload some shots tomorrow. Another great place to shoot. But like praia da Ursa.. a nightmare to reach the beach

Is it Porto Torro (or something like that)...the one with some buildings that you reach through Azoia?
It's ironic, but I was having lunch with a friend on Sunday and he told me about it...I thought it would be somewhere interesting to go when I have the time.

A Adraga pertence às praias da linha de Sintra. Google maps e segue desde as praias de Cascais até às de Sintra. Tem sitios optimos para fotografia
