Description I really appreciated both the challenge and the opportunity to work on a non-rat subject and although he is far from perfect, I am still mostly happy with the final result.

Blend of Super Sculpey and Sculpey Firm over a wire and foil armature. Painted with acrylics and sealed with Citadel Purity Seal.

I would love to learn to sculpt like this >.< it's just... just wow. perfect in it's many ways. the folds in the skin, the tiny little hairs, the stubby paws, the neat textures, and that face X3 I love it!!!!! it's nothing short of fantastic! I just love this! I can hardly find the words to say, but I am just awestruck by this here....

Thank you for your kind words. I'm so happy people like this chap - but I am a little scared to do another canine I guess it's practice, practice, practice as they say?

Weird, I know, but I just love his legs and feet. They're so very doxie! (Which I guess is the point! haha) You are so talented.

If you don't mind me asking- do you get good results strength wise by mixing the two clays?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

philosophyfox In reply to christyrenee [2012-02-27 22:51:20 +0000 UTC]

Thank you

Post-baking there's not a huge amount of difference, but whilst sculpting I find it has a more firmer texture. I've noticed it more so recently after just using a particularly soft batch of Super Sculpey. If I can ever afford a pasta machine I think I'd definitely use blends far more often. Mixing by hand hurts me hehe!

O_O Holy cow, this is amazing! He just looks so lifelike! I love how you did the wrinkles on his back and legs, and his face is so expressive! He is just precious. The eyes look really nice, did you sculpt those as well, or use pre-made eyes?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

philosophyfox In reply to LeiliaClay [2012-02-19 23:41:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Glad you like him. I made/painted his eyes by hand. I am looking into pre made eyes though. Even if it's to keep them the same size XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LeiliaClay In reply to philosophyfox [2012-02-20 00:28:53 +0000 UTC]

Wow, that's awesome, they really turned out nice. I've also been thinking about using pre-made eyes for my more realistic sculptures for the very same reason, it is so freaking hard to get the eyes to be the same size! >< And sometimes I don't even realize they are slightly different sizes until I start painting them. So frustrating. ;_;

philosophyfox In reply to Duzloo [2012-02-19 23:43:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I must admit, my favourite part is the paint job. He has shading in real life and some highlights that haven't shown up on the photo

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Duzloo In reply to philosophyfox [2012-02-20 02:07:06 +0000 UTC]

You can add so much with paint, even more details and character So he's even more gorgeous in real

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

philosophyfox In reply to Duzloo [2012-02-20 08:23:06 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes I get really worried about something I've made, then they get the base coat on and I'm 'well what *was* I worried about?!' I just really want to learn more painting and shading techniques. I guess it's practice, experiment...a lot of times!
