I love my pins.. they are eating machines lol.. My female pin 66% het carmel def be ready for 2014 season.. She won't stop eating lol. She already 500 grams or so.. Now just need figure out what to get for her to try and prove her out.. Could just get a normal male the het carmel but thinking maybe a spider het carmel..

Pins rock!

With the low price of male carmels these days I'd just grab a visual and prove her out the best way! I've got some gals at 800-900 grams that I hope can put on those last few hundred grams to be ready for a late 2013 season (for some reason my snakes breed really late...I have a pied gal due to lay in three weeks!).

If I saw a male carmel for cheap would pick it up but most ones have seen are $500-$600.. Not bad compared to most morphs these days but more then looking spend right now on that. I have half a dozen other morphs on my want list that if able to drop that on snake right now would before a carmel haha. Honestly didn't even buy her for the pos het carmel. I bought her because wanted a female pin and got great deal on her.. I am more attempted to ignore the pos het and just breed her to whatever LOL. O well will see. got another year to figure out what wanna do..

I've seen the males run 300$ over on Fauna. I'm not a huge fan of caramel though so I'd probably just pretened I didn't even know she was ph.

They been dropping down lot in price cause more people are going with the ultramels because of the kinking with the carmels.. However most everyone I know/talked to that produced carmels this year had zero kinking. I think most of it is due to incubation temps. A lot of people incubate at higher temps(90) to hatch things out a little quicker. When do that seems to raise risk of having deformites. That is what I have noticed from talking to several breeders. I always incubate 88 or 89 at the highest. All the people know this year that produced carmels without any kinking where incubating at 88. So personally I am leaning towards temps playing big part in it. I am not big fan of carmels by themselves.. I like some of the combos like carmel spiders,pastels,pins,etc..

I incubate at 88 because it leaves me more room for mistakes. If you start your incubator at 90 and it goes up three degrees you've got dead snakes, if you start at 88 and it goes up three degrees it's not as big a deal.

I'm not as thrilled with ultramel, I think for combos I'd do caramel.

Amen there. People don't realize snakes can tolerate cold much better then heat haha. Much easier to fry your eggs by incubating them to warm then having them go down a couple degrees too cool.. The problem is people are in such a rush to hatch things they incubate at 90.. I find babies healthier/bigger when give them little extra time.

I think on their own ultramels look better then carmels and more people jumped to them because no probs with kinking. I honestly haven't seen many ultramel combos in person/pics to say which like better. I don't plain to get into that project either way. The only reccessive projects I really wanna be in are clowns and tri stripes.

Yeah, I don't think getting eggs to hatch 2-3 days sooner is worth it in any way. My last batch incubated for 67 days, but every hatchling was over 70 grams and active right from the start.

I do love clowns and tri stripes. But my path is set, specialty pieds for me all the way.

I just picked up a green pastel male that one day I'm going to breed to my black pastel pied in order to one day make Onxy Pied (hopefully it will be a first). Also in the works: mojave pied, jigsaw pied, panda pied, pyro pied, pinstripe pied, firefly pied (someone produced one this year it is HOT), angry pied. It is my ten year plan to produce at least half if not all that list.
