Description The tools your grandfather might have used, but you will probably never handle. Such a shame.

Fossicking. Great word. We would probably say 'fartarseing.'

Yeah, good point. However aside from the oil can I've used all of those in his shop...or maybe I have used the oil can. It was back when I was a kid and would help him clean up and work on progects.

In my case 'clean up and work on projects' meant 'get under the feet and break things'. Thanks a lot for the fave.

And when our grandchildren are our age, I wonder what they will say about "those antiquated boxes they used to call computers"?

Ha! very true, Steve. Technology is moving at such a pace. Goodness knows what life will be like by the time I shrug off this mortal coil.

I really like this shot... Can't exactly put my finger on what I like about it though. The overall hues & the light, giving it a very old & of times past look.

I have that same hammer, but it's falling apart.

photonig In reply to Jenna-Rose [2009-01-13 22:18:57 +0000 UTC]

That's the feeling I wanted to portray. I have been at a loose end lately, but think I might do a few still lifes in an old worldly feel.
Thanks for the fave.

I have the Oil can in my shed its green and I have the Hammer type too know as a Ball Pane Hammer and it looks like about a 2lb one to me - could the pot be holding drill bits etc ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

photonig In reply to taramara [2009-01-13 20:57:33 +0000 UTC]

The hammer in this shot is a heavy short shafted ball pane, and the tin is holding rusty 4in nails. The rust on the tin was falling off as I moved it. Mustn't have been touched for years.

Okies Good Boy ... just looked at my Tripod and the number is on the leg it's a 055CL model ... just been browsing and the difference in prices are crazy - I bought the 3 way head Manfrotto 460MG separately not sure of the price I paid - just browsed it [link] but not sure what I paid as I said but whatever it was worth it as it's a fine piece of kit

Thanks for faving it. That is the feeling I wanted to get across. These tools were in an old box and probably hadn't been used for years. The next generation will have no use for them. That is a shame, because they are beautiful, in their own way.

PlanetaryButterfly In reply to photonig [2009-01-18 19:39:12 +0000 UTC]

No kidding! I never see anybody use a plane anymore, nor even a handsaw. It's all circular saws. The only use for handsaws anymore is for old ladies to Tole paint them with scenes of farms and stuff.

I like this. I like still life, but had all sorts of trouble with the colour when I put it on DA. It went from brown to blue. I had to mess about with it then re-sub.
