What kind of wire armature do you use? I'd like to start using them for projects yet whenever I try to make one it ends up a bundle of stabby wires, what kind of wire are you using for these?

I use 16-18gauge aluminum wire depending on the project.

Not scientifically accurate I'm afraid. Next time try to look at pictures of what a velociraptor actually looked like. Still very adorable though! nice workΒ

It was based off the JP version as stated in the description and I know what they really looked like.

Feathers aren't the only thing JP got wrong... Β They got the hands wrong too. The raptors ha hands that fce the other direction, not inwards towrds their feet, but outwards like a birds wing.

Out of curiosity, do you just use a wire of some sort to make them poseable?
π: 0 β©: 1
Pickleweasel360 In reply to Kaiodi [2015-08-04 08:10:27 +0000 UTC]
Yep! They all have wire armatures that help them pose in different ways.

This is incredible, I was looking for some inspiration to see if anyone had made a good looking jurassic park style velociraptor, so I wouldn't have to totally wing a pattern if I didn't have to, and I came across this. I love the patterning, I want to make Blue from Jurassic world, and I love the fabric marker idea. Β How did you make the claws, if I might ask? I was thinking about my options and since I want to make mine pretty small, I was left a bit at a loss when it came to the design stage. (I'm also thinking of knitting mine but I do both so)

Thank you. I haven't seen the movie yet or I'd probably be making one as well. However I'd prefer it if you would use your own pattern instead of copying mine. I've had a problem with pattern theft and this makes me uncomfortable. If you are making a small one, pipe cleaners would do well for claws. Don't get your markered areas wet after applying and be sure they dry fully before touching it or they will smear.

I always use my own patterns now that I'm not a beginner, but it's nice to see how other people apply their own designs to the same idea, to get inspiration, you know? Like your little unicorn, it's amazing and totally different from what I would do.
Β I totally understand about pattern theft being an issue, it's hard work to make a pattern. I've been hesitant to post my favorite pattern on ravelry because theft is so common and I sell the finished ones sometimes. There's no way to stop someone from selling a ton on etsy and acting like they made up the design, you know?
How do fabric markers work on darker colors? Or different types of yarn? I'm using a silk yarn since it happened to be the perfect color, and I've never heard of fabric markers before I saw your work. Which is fantastic by the way, you have a great distinctive style.

Thanks, I have some copics and sharpies so I might try those out, I'll just embroider on the lighter colors, blue has white stripes as well as dark blue ones, so I was wondering. I'm definitely going to remember that for future plushies, might make doing faces and clothing details easier to just draw them on.

I don't know, a Cassowary will kill you. Now imagine it's moa sized, has teeth & 5in claws - sounds scary to me. We probably only survived 'cause they all died.
Love the amigurumi though! Stripes and that eye is fab, great stuff!

Thank you! Since this one was my test version, the color changes were made with marker. I hope to make a two toned one with the color changes in the yarn with the third color made with marker.

Ok the claws are blowing my mind, they are perfect and so thin, I could never crochet that small! *stares in awe*

Pickleweasel360 In reply to Tarrpit [2014-04-03 10:14:13 +0000 UTC]
x3 The claws are actually yarn wrapped around wire. I can't crochet that thin either unless it was with crochet thread. Wrapping the yarn around the wire gives it a thin and smooth look.
