YouTube, up until this point, had been untouchable. That is, of course, because they had been too "small" for business big-wigs to take notice. Viacom became the first in what was then after a steady stream of media companies pressing charges on YouTube that would ultimately redefine the landscape at youtube.com into what it is today. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does come with ads, muted videos, and a constant threat that a user-uploaded video will be removed.
