Description I have to admit that I had ONCE considered having a UF contest theme of just black and white, not totally realizing how hard that is!!! I have been struggling with this for the past few weeks. I made several attempts but soon realized you can't do a "typical" fractal cause you can't let the colors "guide you. You have to keep things real basic which, for me, is hard to do.

The other thing, there have been so many great entries already that it was making me scared, lol. I didn't think I was gonna be able to come up with anything. But, low and behold, I somehow came up with this. I had been wondering for a while now how to do fractal trees and finally found resources that helped.

I'm actually quite proud of this one but I'd have to say the only thing I don't like is the fact that the trees just come out of the water. I wanted them to be on a hill but it seemed like more trouble than it was worth so I just left them coming out of the water. It's not like that doesn't occur in nature, right?

Anyway, still don't know if I want this to be my entry for the UF B&W contest, might wait to see if I can come up with something else. Just wanted to share this with everyone and see what you think. Now I have the other contest to worry about

Enjoy...

what resources did you use to make the fractal trees? that would be helpful

a lovely entry for the contest, and very nice work with ESA fractal trees! I think you've got lake mapping on the moon layer... easily fixed if you decide to give it a go!

Great work, love the use of trees, only thing that sorta nags at me is the ripples in the bottom of the moon, very minor lol but thats just me, other than that an amazing job

Thank you...

The ripples in the moon bother me too but I couldn't figure out why it was doing that so I just left it the way it is...

Maybe look at the mapping for that layer, maybe you accidentally kept the rippples from the other layers when you added that layer on, I know I've done that before

those are the nicest trees i've ever seen here o.0 it looks more like a B&W foto . i tried to make some trees some time ago but the results weren't even good enough to post -.-
Actuall they do appear like that in rainforests and swamps. even here when we get flooded ^^ sso i wouldn't worry allot about that
great piece girl

This was actually my first REAL attempt at it. I had always tried to use the color algo before but like you I could never come up with anything. You just have to keep at it and mess around with the settings long enough to figure out how things work. Also, if you search for help files, like I did, they're help ALOT too...

You'd be crazy to not submit it. I've only seen one other person do trees in UF before.

Are you calling me crazy...? J/K This more than likely will be my entry, I don't think I'll come up with anything better and I'm proud of the general idea I came up with and the execution of it.

I'm surprised more people haven't done UF trees before. It's not difficult but at the same time it takes a minute to get the right look. I would have thought that more advanced fractal artists would have done it but like you've said I've only seen maybe 1 or 2 people use it. I was gonna go to the UF journal and ask if anyone knew how to do it but I realize that might not of helped lol...

Ahh.. I didn't get to finish my comment! Anywayz, wonderful work! I've always been fond of fractal trees. If you don't mind my asking, where did you find this particular formula? or is it a mapping function...? In any case! Definite and it will really be an excellent addition to the contest if you enter it!

Actually it's a coloring algo, I believe it was the esa fratal tree. If you do a search for fractal trees you'll find it within uf. It's best to use a pixel formula...

Thank you and thanks for the

WOW my first thoughts were that can't be a fractal but it is having looked properly at it i just can't believe it still and my second thought is don't enter it as then no one else will have a hope and then my third is where or what were the resources that helped with the trees is it a closely gaurded secret or is it going public cos i'd love to look into it

i have to say it again WOW

excellent

stunning

Guarded secrets...maybe not necessarily guarded, it just took some looking for...

All I'll tell you is if you do a search for it you'll more than likely find it...If you can't find it then MAYBE i'll tell you where I found it...lol

Thanks for the comments by the way...
