Description Edit 2: This submission was uploaded in June 2 years ago and obviously my intentions were the same. I've said everything I wanted to say. Instead discussing among yourself, send a note to me in private.
Stop spreading gossips/nonsense and talk to me with facts. Anyone that is neutral with this, please do not join this discussion. I already moved on. Shortened description as most were unnecessary.

Edit 1: The meaning behind the characters is doubt. While it isn't very obvious in the picture, I tried to portray inner struggle and embrace. If you didn't notice, the guy is crying.
To those that mention pageviews, it's YOU that care about it. Link to a conversation about this: comments.deviantart.com/1/5378…
I'm only reflecting my thoughts in this single piece- peace and harmony which is actually the main theme criteria to fit in this category.

Edit: Updating the description because some misunderstood why I submit this under the community project "Pride" that is about LGBTQ+.
In my opinion, nobody is forced to be categorized and to be 'identified'. I don't like to be identified, because it puts one in boundaries, expectations etc. However, that is impossible as people
always label others despite their own opinion. The characters are twins and this shows care, like genders support each other. Peace and harmony between any gender. Be yourself.

06/06/2015:
There is always someone who deeply cares for you. It may be a family member, friend or even a stranger, cherish them as they cherish you. They are irreplaceable just like you are.

Lately things are going downhill and all I do is blaming myself. Now I'm afraid to take steps because I might choose the wrong path again and again... but I'm doing anyway
Sometimes I wish to have a thick skin so I would not care about anything... but then I would be like a robot hmm.

Anyway, this is a stress reliever. The characters are my OCs Ikuya (left) and Ikuyo (right, aka my icon). They are twins with Ikuyo being slightly older.
Last time I drew them together was like 1 year ago lolz. Every time I draw Ikuyo, the theme is overall feeling is different. This one represents harmony and warmth.
They support each other a lot which gives the message "The one that cares for you the most, may be closer than you think."

Ok, because of all the drama and attention for this, I'm going to comment my thoughts here, its just my thoughts so no war please... (not to mention I'm not an English speaker so I might not be able to word my feelings completely but I still hope this reaches to more people)

First of all, many people would say that this picture doesn't seem to fit the LGBTQ theme. Well, it is true that the artist uploads the drawing 2 years ago and it doesn't show any OBVIOUS theme related to LGBTQ. The main theme for the picture is Peace and Harmony, sub theme, Struggle and Embrace. Doesn't seem to fully work for an LGBTQ theme right? Just by the picture alone, yeah it doesn't really fit into the LGBTQ theme. But then, since I know the artist personally, I know that when they created these characters, a pair of twins, they are thinking about struggles, doubts, doubts that include genders identities. The pair of OCs are meaningful OCs for the artist because of the meaning behind the OCs, how OCs are created can represents how the artist feel.

What I'm trying to say is, the artist changed the category of the drawing since they feel that the meaning behind the characters is suitable for the pride month, and its just a kind action to show support of those who are struggling. Even if you FEEL that the artist is trying to gain attention, please do not bash them and being rude. You are free to think that the artist is trying to gain attention or not, but please do not jump into conclusion and start a huge drama. You are free to give opinions if you think that what the artist does is not right. Everyone has the freedom to give opinions but being rude won't change anything and it will only cause mental stress to the artist. Everyone has different ways of thinking and different ways to express and show support. We are not Pinlin, we don't know how they think, but its also their freedom to choose how to express. You can't just say that "IM SURE YOU ARE TRYING TO GAIN ATTENTION SHAME ON YOU". Maybe it isn't the best choice for them to change the category since the picture isn't really showing obvious LGBTQ theme, but why starting a war and bash them when they are just trying to show support?

I trust that Pinlin isn't trying to gain attention by changing the category.

Peace.

Kaffeekuechenkind [2017-06-07 20:06:00 +0000 UTC]

Hi there 😊
I’m not much of an artist (I needed to register here to write this -_-) but I like deviantart since many years. Just your average art loving person here.
I’m from Germany btw, forgive me if my English isn’t perfect.

I’ve been browsing the whole pride month theme from the day it started and I was pretty shocked to read about all the bigotry and hate that members of the LGBT community had to face in the comments on deviantart, facebook, etc... I couldn’t even understand why it would be worth for someone to spend so much time and effort into writing something for the sole purpose of making someone else feel bad about him/herself. It doesn’t even matter why. Religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation. It’s just despicable and low and it’s plain sh*t and no one who doesn’t do harm to other people should ever face something like that. Be who you want to be, believe what you want to believe. Be happy.

But… then I found this picture and for the first time ever I had the feeling that I actually *must* comment on something at this website because how most people behave here makes me sick. Just sick.
I’ve been reading over the rules of this event again and again and I couldn’t find a single misstep with this artwork, except maybe the color issue. Then again it is clearly stated in the rules that colors may be altered by deviantart if they don’t fit with the theme well enough.
I haven’t seen any rule that the artwork has to specifically display LGBT people. Are you going to start the same rampage here?
www.deviantart.com/art/Fifty-S…
Or maybe here?
www.deviantart.com/art/Nature-…
What about this one?
www.deviantart.com/art/Forest-…
Or that?
www.deviantart.com/art/L-i-f-e…
Or are these trees and flowers “queer” enough?

It doesn’t state anywhere that you can’t resubmit an existing artwork either.

*I* thought, that the idea is to show the support and the wish that every person should have the same rights and acceptance, no matter what their sexual orientation is, and that the artist expresses that by submitting a piece of his art to this event. *I* thought I could submit a god damn scribble of a butterfly that I made when I was 10 years old and that it’s not about what I submit and how horrible it may look but that I actually do it to show my support.
But that’s obviously not the case.
You’re assuming the worst intention (“you just promote your work”), actually even state that the artist doesn’t care about LGBT (which you simply can’t know) and you insult the artist and the WORST thing, is that you’re not even open for a dialogue. You have your opinion set on this matter and it doesn’t matter *at all* what the artist comments on that because you don’t want to be convinced, you don’t want to discuss either, you just want to be right and bash because the whole matter isn’t how you’re expecting it or wanting it to be.

Does that remind you of something? I hope it does. If it doesn’t, you can go and freshen up your memory in the pride month comment section, where a whole bunch of degenerate smurfs is bashing on LGBT people because they think they got the whole “right and wrong” thing figured out.
Well they don’t. And neither do you.

This is a beautiful artwork and it doesn’t matter of it’s old, doesn’t fit the color scheme or may get extra views from this. I don’t think any person in his right mind would support a cause they can’t stand behind, for the sole purpose of getting promotion and that leaves us with my original statement. By submitting the artwork, the artist was trying to show his support for LGBT rights. And everyone who couldn’t manage to comment to that in a halfway decent manner took a big dump on that and the whole purpose of the pride month. So much for acceptance.

I want to thank you for this comment. The artist changed the drawing's category because they believed it fit, and while it's not very obvious about its connection to Pride Month, that doesn't automatically make the artist a homophobe.

1. nature pictures cant be heterosexual either. what the pretty nature pictures does is show us the true beauty and love of gay people in an abstract metaphor. this just shames it.

2. the authors of those pictures are specifically pledging support to the LGBT community and not relying on dumb excuses.

3. "*I* thought, that the idea is to show the support and the wish that every person should have the same rights and acceptance, no matter what their sexual orientation is"

straight people get rights and acceptance already. there is a whole month to celebrate straight peoples rights. wanna know what it is? every month. you see straight people on TV, in movies, in books. (rougly 95.2% of people on prime time tv are straight) right when we're born, we're exposed to a huge lack of LGBT education, resources, and lots of homophobia. we listen as straight people are called "normal" and "right" and we're messed up on the head. we see homophobic content everywhere, stereotypes to lgbt people. there are hate crimes, people shooting and killing and murdering gay people just because of who they are. (straight people can get murdered, but its NOT because they are straight.) gay people are tortured, raped, and murdered ALL over and in so many different countries for falling in love.

dont you understand why a gay person would be mad? heres all the work we've fought for, for acceptance that we still have a long way to fight for! this is just one post, but yeah, all pride month posts (whether there positive or negative) are filled with people uneducated on LGBT rights, saying things like "straight pride!!" "there are only two genders!" "god hates fags!" this person should have drawn a gay picture for LGBT pride instead of revamping an old one. made there be a transgender flag if she wanted to show what they were instead of silencing and repressing us. should have posted in a different category, and should have made it gay for a month celebrating the diversity and love of gay couples, not straight couples. they can go make some sort of incest or straight pride day and do this if they want, but not on our month =/

No, I don't understand why anyone would get mad. I'd be happy about someone supporting the root idea of the event (to show support for equal rights and I'm totally on board with that) with a submission in the first place and me identifying with the artwork itself or liking it would be secondary to me. But that wasn't even the point of my comment.

My point was the behavior and the insults towards the artist, because there have been very few people who made the effort to have a decent discussion about their concerns with Pinlin.
I consider everyone equal. I don't care if you are gay, lesbian, an alien or a unicorn. You're not a special snowflake for me, nor are any of the other persons who wrote insulting and belittling comments here. And since I treat everybody the same, I expect the same god damn manners from everyone.

Even *if* you're incredibly mad and offended by the submission, it's a pretty - as you phrased it - "dumb excuse" for insulting someone.

I think love is love and it's horrible that people with a different sexual orientation from "straight" get insulted and bashed in the events comments. But a lot of the comment writers have displayed the *exact* same bigotry here. If they think it doesn't align with their personal opinion, they feel it gives them the right to misbehave and judge and insult. It's so hypocritical, if it wasn't so sad, I'd probably laugh about it.
And you my friend, are doing the exact same thing.
It's a shame.

OH let me get one thing down okay i think you misunderstood

i am not a bigot against straight people!! i know i sound like one, i know some people like me are. BUT im not. i believe love is love too. and i dont want to discriminate against straight people at all!! straight people are wonderful, its just that only some of them are homophobic and bad.

this still made me upset, even though im not against straight people which is probably where you misunderstood. a gay pride month is a celebration of being gay. being gay is being the same gender and falling in love right??? usually as i said in media we see straight people. thats why the progam for gay fanart seemed AWESOME!!! a way to celebrate gay people in there own way (because, yes i know this sounds bigoted, straight people just already have the rights and recognition that gay people dont have,)

but im a gay person. so you can see why in offended when someone draws somthing straight and puts it in the gay category right? i felt really upset. i felt like celabrating myself didnt seem to matter when i saw this. we have this dedicated celabration of gay pride and then this person puts a heterosexual drawing with some excuse that actually REALLY offends me.

its not even a pride related drawing. seeing this didnt make me feel celabrated at all. it honestly (since i was in the gay category) made me feel kind of dehumanized. because with all the straight people in the media (again, straight people arent BAD, they just have more rights then me!) seeing this straight drawing in this thing supposed to make me feel repersented and important made straight people feel more important then me.

you can call me overreacting if you want, but when we're talking supporting equal rights part of that is celebrating our diversity. thats why i feel like DA has this program- to draw love that makes people unique- which is gay love. showing diversity in drawings or at least alluding to its beauty with that stunning photography from before is such an amazing way to have LGBT people like me (who have been bullied and discriminated against before, at least in my and most lgbt peoples cases) feel normal and repersented for a change.

if this person wanted to show equal rights between straight people and gay people, they would have done a drawing of a heterosexual person and a gay person accepting eachother in peace.

this person made me feel really bad and upset. i know that my comments before were unfriendly. i think i will go edit them. i know it might be a bit harder to understand, like with our language and all, because your from a different country (not that thats a bad thing!) but drawings like this can really affect a lot of peoples emotions, which is why people got upset at this artist.

Hi hon, i just wanted to make a small point - gay pride month is about  lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender  , so saying "being gay is being the same gender and falling in love" is not entirely correct. There are bisexual and transgender people as well (not to mention pansexual, which i am). I'm not saying this picture shows either/or, as i dont see the artist stating that, but this month is all about inclusion! Being gay can come in many forms.

I'm very sorry to see so much fighting and i deeply hope this doesn't agitate anything further. This month is all about acceptance and love! And i hope that you will feel that this month too.  Please have a lovely day!

Not related- > Depends how you interpret. The way I interpret, it does. There is more at than the first glance.
Violated dA rules- > None. It goes by color theme.

The insults are going far too personal. This drawing was created on negative emotions, and it repeats 2 years
later on the same subject. I shouldn't be offended when I know my own intentions, but my first interaction
