Description
This is small project that I finished over this past weekend, the Midnight Tanto. It's only a total of 16-1/2" long, so even shorter than the tanto I did earlier, but it looks correct, since the blade is still twice the handle length. It is however, wider than I normally do them.Since I didn't do a tsuba for this one, I wanted to try to make sure that there was no seam where the handle meets the sheath. I didn't exactly get it how I wanted it though. The handle and sheath are 1-1/2" x 3/4". I did this so that I could keep my normal blade width, and still have the sheath and the handle meet. Overall though, I'm very happy with how it came out.
Specs.
Carved completely by hand with absolutely no power tools, just a utility knife and a chisel. Made out of pine wood.
16-1/2" long (11" blade)
Black acryllic paint
Black "ito" (bias tape)

If you hold the sheathed tanto upside down from the sheath, will the tanto fall out?
If not, how did you get it to be a snug fit, without causing the silver paint to chip off when the blade goes into the sheath?

Excellent job, however is you use several coats of primer and sand with 400 sand paper you can eliminate all the wood grain.

Nope! No habaki on this one. But there isn't a tsuba either, so there really wasn't a reason to keep the habaki. Sharp eyes on that catch though.
