My entry to Blizzcon 2010 fan art contest. Unfortunately, It didn't make it to the top 3.
But it's ok! 
Tosh with his band of spectre spooks. While a viking, which BTW, is one my favorite terran units, covers them from behind. I remember staying up late the last night before the deadline. I was painting the whole weekend and my hand was starting to hurt. But it's all good! Hope y'all like it! I really enjoyed working on this.

I can totally understand why my piece didn't make the cut. Look at 2nd and 3rd place! They are freakingly, mind-blowingly EPIC!
As for the first place, I've seen it so many times before - Cute and creative always beats bad ass and detailed. I don't mind that one bit. But if I were one of the judges, I'd simply vote for the ones that make my jaw drop. And that is why I am not that creative. lol.

I love Tosh in SC2 he is one of me favorite characters.

I chose Tosh cause he was cool person to talk to once in a while, Nova could be a bitch (still hot) just that she's a ghost assassin...Mengs agents...maybe a back stabber...

Now that's an exit! Some people use stealth to break out of something. No no no! These people take the brute force exit. Big mechs are a highlight for me! Great work!

I love it. It's such a cool depiction of an equally cool character, and your POV and choice of colours do enhance the theme. I still have to side with Tosh in one of my playthroughs, but the video you get if you side with Nova is very funny, so I don't mind.
Maybe I'm too old for it, but cute doesn't work for me anymore. I can see how this work is very well done from a technical POV, and it has great details... but No. 2 would have beaten it to the top, if I had something to say to that. But it's possible that it has something to do with the fact that the second one has bad-ass Protoss action, and the fangirl is taking over... you never know.
Anyway, you did an awesome job, and I'm looking forward to your next works!

You know what's funny? I was also thinking of doing that Protoss piece that won 2nd place! I mean that moment in the game anyway. I thought that it would make an epic piece. That part in the game where they all made their last stand against a never-ending wave of zerg attack. But I decided against it coz it would be hell to paint

Epic missions make for epic artworks, that's for sure. 
I loved that mission in the game, like I loved all the "secret" Protoss missions... and although we were bound to lose in the end, I felt good when I got a reward for taking as many zergs with me as I could.
Heart of the Swarm cannot come soon enough for me!
Do you already have some plans for your next fanworks? Maybe something Protoss- or Diablo-related again?

Hehe Yeah, I loved all the secret Protoss missions too! I recently unlocked all the achievements on normal mode. Now I'm playing the campaign again on Hard. I'm stuck right now trying to unlock one of the achievements. I'm such a noob at this.
I have so many fan art pieces I want to do. I want to do a WoW piece next, then maybe another Diablo, and maybe after that I want to do a Darksiders piece. But I need to work on non-fan art pieces too for my portfolio

It's a pity that one always has so many ideas for art but not enough time to work on all of them, right?

I can't think of a Tyrael scene yet, but as soon as I come up with something in my head, I sure will.
And what you said about one not having enough time - Hell yeah! It's sad. It's also due to the fact that I am a slow painter with a short attention span. I get tired painting a piece easily that I have to take occasional breaks and do something else.
I'm working as an Art director for a small game studio in Singapore right now, doing concept art and environments
I'm trying to look for work elsewhere

Tell me about long work flows... even my doodles take me weeks nowadays, maybe because I always want to make really good artworks, even just for fun.
But I love trying out new techniques and styles, so it's fun. Just makes it hard to consider this kind of work as my main source of income, simply because it still takes me a lot of time to create good works in 3D, especially when I make my own models etc.
I'm just wetting my feet as a freelancer in the game industry, so I'll have to see where it goes. Good luck with your portfolio and finding a different work one day - with your talent, I'd love to see you design settings for the major companies out there!
