Description EDIT 6/24/2011: Came back after a year and readjusted the colors and texture on this image, wanted it to fit in with my style more. Here is the original: [link]
Might touch up a few more older images in my gallery.

-It's taking forever to switch over to the new file?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Broke my little internet fast to come on and post this real quick, I am still playing catch up on here!
This is the most recent thing I have done.
A portrait of Tango, a gorgeous Quarter Horse x Arabian, who is way more stunning than I can properly portray! This is the second time I've drawn him: [link]
And let me just say, yea, two years makes a big difference! (Those poor hooves!)
My time doing art for HorseIsle 2 [link] has really made me work to improve my understanding of anatomy. Everytime I think I've figured something out, I find something else I have no clue on. It's definitely pushed me in the best ways.
My most admired horse artist (canine artist as well) is George Stubbs. There is just something absolutely breathtaking in his backgrounds, they are so sweeping, and a huge influence for myself.
I have set out to try and do a series of animal portraits in a similar style (only 1/1,000,000th as good as the original haha) This is the first one, and I cannot wait to post the next.
Crits are always welcome! I am always looking to improve. I had to cut myself off from working on this any further.
When I first saw this, I thought 'someone likes George Stubbs' I admire his work too. You've also done very well with your anatomy, job well done I think.
Love this! With the slightly impressionistic yet very realistic background, Tango's pose and the palette, this reminds me of an awesome old oil painting from the 1800's. Bravo!
This is beautiful! I love the warm gold tones of the horse's coat, and the way you defined the muscles definitely shows that you know your horse anatomy. (Not that I'm an expert or anything--but it looks very believable!) The foreground has just enough detail to suggest that it's textured, not smooth, and the foliage in the background has just the right amount of detail as well. The colors are so wonderfully rich that it almost looks like an oil painting. :]
Only critique I have is that the clouds don't look quite right. While the warm colors you used in the dark areas has this really cool effect of pulling them towards the front of the image, I think they're too close in color to the mountains in the background. Using a cooler gray--like the ones you used in the midtone area of the upper right cloud--would have helped push them back into the sky and make them look more realistic. (Same goes with the mountains; since they're far away, they should also be cooler in color. You've got the lower level of contrast down though!) And since they're so dark, they must be more opaque than your average cloud, which means that they would project shadows onto the ground and let the sunlight shine through the gaps.
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate you taking the time to help me out!
I definitely see what you are saying about the color of the clouds and mountains. I really hope I get the chance to go back and play around with this one. The midground would really benefit from having shadows from the clouds. Appart from adding more grey to the mountains and clouds I wonder if I should have made them all a softer color? They don't feel distant enough to me right now.
Of course! No trouble at all. C:
A softer color would definitely help, since everything loses contrast when it is seen through many layers of atmosphere. With the darker tones the clouds have now, it looks like they're closer to the ground and heavy with water. Great for storm clouds, not so much for soft puffy ones that look like bunnies or unicorns.
The most recent breeds I have done are the Standardbred, American White, Dales pony, And I don't have the rest of the list in front of me lol!
This is so soft and gorgeous! I was just going to mention that it reminded me of George Stubbs (I have had his Mares & Foals in a Landscape over my bed for years) so great job paying homage to a great painter. You really captured his lighting style quite well, but with your own touch and colors shining through.
