I actually use to really suck at art, would trace other people's work and stuff. I have no doubt that if you keep trying, you'll be pretty great at art too! ;u;

Professional Douchebag, i love it! xD
He was adorable in MU, but I wish they explained a little more about him. He was so fricking cute in the beginning, and easily my favorite character.
Sully was a big, furry douche.

You are 100% correct! Something awful DOES happen to him in the movie, that would leave anyone emotionally scarred, more than one something, matter of fact. Pretty much every time Randall tries to fit in and earn acceptance and make friends, it winds up backfiring on him and results in him being hurt and humiliated. He makes one decision, still trying to be accepted, that ultimately turns out to be a bad thing, and it costs him his one friendship(though I have to question just how true a friend this was to abandon him so easily) and results in the the really awful thing that happens to him. In MI, Randall is still trying to earn acceptance and respect, as THAT was what his building the Scream Extractor was about, not beating Sulley so much as making Sulley's position as Top Scarer obsolete. Randall hoped that if he did this, and solved the "energy crisis", he'd finally get what had eluded him for so long: respect and acceptance. Waternoose recognized Randall's weakness and took full advantage of him for it, using him to build that machine, offering him a handsome reward(which I doubt he had any real intentions of delivering upon), manipulating Randall to the point of insanity. When you stop and think about what would have really been involved in building that machine, that stress alone would have been enough to make anyone snappy and make them act like a "professional douche bag", even without all the emotional scars beforehand. Having someone like Waternoose breathing down the back of your neck, someone who would not hesitate to inflict punishment and let you know in no uncertain terms that he didn't like you, not getting much sleep, no time off for vacations, all the while working a regular 8-hour work shift and dealing with all the aggravation that RL brings, would make anyone just simply "go off", either lashing out at others or hurting themselves, or both. It's a testament to Randall's real character and inner strength that he lasted as long as he did before snapping.

After just having rewatched this film for the first time in, gosh, has to have been at least 4 or 5 years, I completely agree that his actions where lead by a need for acceptance and respect as oppose to a need for cruelty or to best Sully. From browsing the web, I find it annoying that most people put the villain plot on Randall's shoulder, when it's clear that Waternoose was the ring-master of it all, and was a far more evil person than Randall ever was. Granted I don't think it ever suggested Randall didn't willingly go along with/fully support the project idea, but by the way Waternoose starts acting towards the end of the film, you can see a bit of how he impacts and stresses Randall out, and how the poor dude gets nasty when Waternoose doesn't credit him for his efforts, and yet still tries to make up for it by trying to up his performance I have a feeling that when I go watch MU, I'm going to end up crying like a baby, cause Randall's story is something I can closely relate to at heart.

Believe me, there are a LOT of us who can relate to Randall, having been in similar situations. What bothers me are the people who judge him as "evil" but yet do not believe that THEY are capable of doing any wrong themselves, who actually and literally DO believe themselves to be absolutely perfect and spotless! Study after study has proven this not to be the case; 90% of humans would willingly and knowingly commit evil acts given the right set of circumstances, and they would not even have to be forced, not even have that threat of punishment hanging over their heads as Randall did. It was clear that Waternoose would stop at nothing to remain in power, and most likely he had some lofty political plans ahead of him and remaining in power and making a bigger name for himself while still CEO at MI was his stepping stone to accomplishing those goals. You can bet he already had a lot of politicians in his pocket, so to speak, and probably already had plans to utilize those contacts to secure official approval of the Scream Extractor's technology once it was tested, and had assured Randall that he'd take care of things if the CDA caught on to him bringing in that treat-human children-for testing, thus making Randall believe that all those legalities would be taken care of when that time came. At the same time, though, he'd made Randall swear to absolute secrecy, and dropped hints as to what would happen to him if he violated that secrecy or screwed up in any way. Given how Waternoose dealt with someone he actually LIKED, Sulley, when Sulley caught onto his plans, you can imagine how he would have dealt with someone he DIDN'T like, Randall, had Randall crossed him in any way. How would you like to have THAT hanging over you every day? How do you think that it would have impacted YOUR behavior?
In MU, Sulley is not a very nice individual, or at least, that's the image he wants everyone to see. He does something highly unethical, that, while he believed it was justified, does hurt someone or cause them to be hurt, emotionally, and that someone was Randall. By the time they are put in direct competition with each other at work, years later(which I don't think was a coincidence, either, but part of Waternoose's plan all along), Randall knows Sulley as someone of poor ethics and someone who has no apparent remorse for the pain he caused, so he has every reason to suspect that Sulley's meteoric rise to the top of the Scare Board was not honest. Sulley has basically taken away from Randall everything he's wanted, including his one best friend, but more importantly, Sulley is the target of what's called "displaced aggression". The individuals who REALLY hurt Randall, directly, were people who were in positions of authority over him, first Johnny Worthington III and later Henry J. Waternoose III(wonder if THAT is a coincidence?) and as you will see in MU especially, Randall is very intimidated by people in authority and very submissive to them. He will not challenge someone who is in charge, so when those people intentionally hurt him, he can't lash out at them, so he has to find a "lightning rod" for that frustration, and Sulley is always there. It's like a child kicking a toy or flushing it down the toilet after being sent to his room by a parent. Most of Randall's actions, though, stem totally from what you just said-a desire to find acceptance and respect and a desire to avoid "rocking the boat" and angering the one in charge and risking severe punishment. It really was as if Randall was damned if he did and damned if he didn't.

The prequal comes out in like a week, and what's funny is that until I saw [link] I had no desire at all to see it, but the second I realised young!Randall would be playing a roll, not seeing it stopped being an option v.v I really hope that whatever happens to him isn't TOO bad though. Yeah he was pretty douche-y XD I think he was jealous of the main characters, and wanted some attention instead of being "second place". I haven't seen the movie in ages though, and to be honest I forget a lot about Randall other than that he was an ass and I loved him to pieces for it
