Just a quick idea/tip for the eyes. I started playing around with them and found that you can get the Yellow/Golden eyes if you use the markquee tool around the iris, then on a new layer make that selection white and turn down the opacity. You just want it down far enough that you can see the outline of your layer. Erase the top of the circle. Use that layer as your Iris selection. So select that and ctrl-j on the face layer. Then ctrl-u, colorize needs to be checked. Pull the color slider to the yellow area so about 52 to about 56 range. Saturation at 100 percent then lightness about two to four percent. That will give you a good iris for the na'vi color eyes.

quite nice, but the ears are a tad too big and too saturated for the foggy setting - the orange-ish glow at their tips is a result of light refracting through the blood vessels under the skin when lit by strong light.

That red glow was a detail I really liked in the film, so wanted to capture the effect as much as possible in my photo. But you're right, I should have chosen a background with a stronger light source to justify this. I added a lens flare to emphasize the light coming from behind a little more, but a more brightly lit background image overall would have been a better way to go, for sure.

You know your stuff, I'm impressed.

Nice and very helpful, but you forgot to resize the eyes (; Don't wanna sound like a smartass, but Na'vi have bigger eyes in general, not only the iris. And, yeah, using official pics from the movie isn't so good either. :/

Planet37 In reply to Safufu [2011-01-20 22:11:22 +0000 UTC]

You are right. I was admittedly very cautious when it came to editing the eyes because I didn't want to look silly. Vanity prevailed

Only problem with this is that you aren't allowed to use official art from the movie in your own art, as this constitutes art theft.

Oh no! Let's hope James Cameron doesn't visit my DA page any time soon

Yes of course if DA contacts me about this I will address the issue. I'm sorry if I've caused any offense it wasn't my intention :-/
