Description "We'll show you what just blew past me in a few minutes, because now it's time to put a star in our reasonably-priced car. He's a billionaire playboy, a part-time superhero, the head of a multinational industrial corporation, and a much, much bigger petrol head than Bruce Wayne. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Tony Stark!"
(He placed third on the leader board, after Han Solo and Wally West, and just ahead of Lois Griffin.)

OH GEE WHAT COULD JAMES POSSIBLY BE DRIVING THAT CAN TURN UP SO SUDDENLY.

I cannot believe how much rage was involved in the creation of Page Two. First of all, drawing Richard is difficult and frustrating. But since I watched that one episode where they had the Tumbler from the Christian Bale Batman movies in their studio, well... I was disappointed to see Richard getting all fanboy-excited over a vehicle that is CLEARLY NOT A BATMOBILE, but I would have forgiven it since the one who actually called it a Batmobile was James. But then, they went on to show the ranks for their Best Driving Song poll... when I saw "Bat Out Of Hell" at the top, I cheered. Paused the episode, even, so I wouldn't miss anything. Then, unpaused it to see Richard and Jeremy BEGGING the public to vote it out, which is nothing short of blasphemy - bad enough that Richard had already been knocking Radar Love (another damn good song, driving or otherwise), but hearing him go on to bad-mouth the song that was GOING to be playing on the Batmobile stereo - was nothing short of a kick in the teeth. Erasing it, even to change it to the actual Batman theme, made me feel - and I'm not exaggerating in the slightest - dirty and wrong.

To be fair, listening to the actual lyrics of Bat Out Of Hell instead of just the melody and awesome Steinman piano, it IS a pretty depressing song - and if they'd cited that as their reason for not liking it as a driving song, I could have forgiven them. Well, they didn't. To paraphrase Yahtzee's review of Portal, FUCK YOU, MEAT LOAF'S GREAT AND IF YOU DON'T THINK SO YOU MUST BE STUPID.

Batman and the Batmobile belong to DC Comics.
Top Gear belongs to the BBC.
Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond belong to themselves.

Pffft Clarkson's face in the last panel

I love the way you've illustrated Clarkson's face in the final panel.  He looks completely speechless.

...aand that rules out Herbie.
Marvellous job on this - they look fantastic and the dialogue is PERFECT. So much love.

...James must have the time-travelling DeLorean. Eh? EH? *scuttles off to the final page*

The tumbler (from an objective point of view) is a 1,000,000 times better than the batmobile!

But from an aesthetic point of view, it's still not a Batmobile, and that's a problem.

Batmobile can be stopped by a wall... carbon fiber won't do a thing, suspension is too low and the speed that can reach is rubbish.

plangkye In reply to ARC-Trooper-Star [2009-09-26 15:46:56 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I'm equally open to James though; there isn't a single second that he's on the screen and he fails to make me laugh hysterically.

Ok then...You draw me Richard I draw you James instead?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

plangkye In reply to ARC-Trooper-Star [2009-09-26 22:26:51 +0000 UTC]

Either one's fine. James is the funny one, Richard's the sex appeal (and just as funny really, only a little less often than James).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ARC-Trooper-Star In reply to plangkye [2009-09-27 10:15:10 +0000 UTC]

I disagree on Richard being funny but a little less often than James. It's the other way around for me. (If I'm honest, I think James is the boring one). Richard is the cutest AND the funniest in my opinion. *hides from a horde of angry Mayniacs*

So I guess that's settled, I'll draw you James, you draw me Richard

Anything in particular you want James to be doing in your picture?

I've got this vision of him driving a racecar from about 1920, with the goggles and the scarf and everything... any preference on what I do with Richard?

ARC-Trooper-Star In reply to plangkye [2009-09-27 16:11:39 +0000 UTC]

Could you draw him all happy and excited like a little puppy dog over a Zonda? Because he absolutely adores that car and he's so cute when going all fanboy over it...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

plangkye In reply to ARC-Trooper-Star [2009-09-27 16:21:47 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely! I laughed so hard when he came back to the studio after reviewing the roadster version, and Jeremy said to those two girls in the audience "It's hopeless - he's lost, you can go home now" or however he worded it. Actually I'd been going to draw that anyway.

ARC-Trooper-Star In reply to plangkye [2009-09-27 17:15:47 +0000 UTC]

Aww yay! I loved that bit with the girls checking him out and Jezza telling them Richard fell in love with the Zonda (which isn't my type of car to be honest). It was so cute

And then that moment in S12 they pit a Zonda F against a Bugatti Veyron and the Zonda was actually faster around the track and Hamster was all eager to know and then Jezza burnt the laptime slip and said it spontaniously self-combusted, leaving Richard in a big grump and complaining to James about Jezza being "such a child".

long message is long...lol I love to geek out about TG

Anyway, if you draw fanboy Richard for me...I'll try to draw you a James in an old-fashioned car

lol!! I keep using TG phrases all day...I'm such a geek, I can't even look at a Dacia Sandero in a normal way anymore. I always tend to go all *points* Good News!!!

Oh by the way...I saw you did the TG meme...and I noticed you draw shirtless Richard really well...*hint hint* Could you make a bigger drawing of him for me please?

Tee hee... I certainly could; would you like that as your half of our art trade instead of Zonda Fandrooling, since I was going to draw the latter anyway?

ARC-Trooper-Star In reply to plangkye [2009-09-28 20:14:52 +0000 UTC]

I've got this joke going on with some of my friends...there's similarities between my group of friends and the TG3 so I'm Richard and the others are Jezza and James...Even the height order seemks to be correct!

Oh my, yes please!! Do want!

plangkye In reply to ARC-Trooper-Star [2009-09-28 20:21:43 +0000 UTC]

One of my friends like EXACTLY like a young James May - identical facial bone structure, and the same color, texture, and style of hair. I want to grab my boyfriend and his brother and dress them up as Richard and Jeremy (the height differences work too - his brother's enormous!), and get myself a face-concealing white helmet...

As for my group, our personalities seem to match up with those of the TG3 for a big part...

Mine doesn't, but then, there's four of us and we all have faces. Pearson, however, not only looks like James but frequently acts like him as well...

On an entirely different note, I've been considering joining the Celebrities Crew, only I can't decide between Carrie Fisher and Mary Steenburgen.
