Description 3D models of some ancient memory modules (SIMM 30 pin with parity check)
From left to right:
1) 256Kb; SOJ/PLCC chips
2) 256Kb; PDIP chips packages (it's actually a concept, chips are similar to 41256)
3) 1Mbyte; SOJ chips packages

Some tech details about tools:
Paint.NET 3.5.10: textures editing, yellow one is drawn nearly from scratch
Blender 2.69: modeling and UV mapping. Overall poly count is about 60k.
Octane Render 1.52: materials setup and rendering (pmc mode with maxdepth=8 at 6000spp)

Oh yeah... Having a pair of these babies plugged into my ISA SoundBlaster AWE32 did wonders to the MIDI music back then...

Nice work...

That is awesome!!
I showed the render to some people and they all said it was a picture.
Its extremely realistic!!

It is all the more remarkable, because one of these modules actually never exist and presented here just as (electronic) art concept

you're talking about #2 right?

I've seen #1 & #3, but never seen #2 until I read  that it was a conceptual design as it never existed to begin with.

Yes, about board in middle.
There were real memory modules (much bigger), based on these (or similar) real chips... but making it in SIMM form factor was just an imagination

FYI, image of PCB for the center board was just drawn in Paint.NET, without any PCB CADs... so there are a lot of trace errors, only some real pinouts were taken in account ...because it is just a concept and art object on the other hand

How did You manage to create so real image?

pnn32 In reply to Overlader [2014-05-15 18:30:06 +0000 UTC]

Did you mean entire image with all three modules or just PCB image for center board?

Overlader In reply to pnn32 [2014-05-16 07:11:12 +0000 UTC]

A PCB in center, I'm tryin' to create realistic models but I have problems with that.

Texture was drawn using repeating of small fragments of textolite, PCB track foil and mount pads images... same image was applied as bump map to get visual displacement of PCB tracks. The surface of PCB mesh is actually flat plane.
