On the ice Sybil was both powerful and graceful. She was known for her jumps and short interviews with charming smiles and awkward waves. But that courteous facade built by sportsmanship and manipulative athletic background stood no chance once Gravefall ripped her from her already slim chances at Olympic Gold.
Here, she is the true biting and aggressive ball of fury that she so carefully tried to hide away.
Here, where they break her from where she was, to fight for something that didn't concern her or her goals. What right did they have? Complete assimilation with a team filled with weak willed Nothings who bend under the thumb of someone who just ripped them out of their normal lives - it doesn't benefit her. They are dreamers in a world separate from her own. Her morals prior to Gravefall remained neutral as she kept herself within ignorance to keep herself going. But as time goes, they slowly shift as her ability to control herself and her life become something she can wield. She will do what she needs to to get back to where she was. Sybil will say what she wants, when she wants, and in particular if she believes you deserve it. She will never say what she doesn't mean, and her actions reflect that.
Sure, underneath it all the world of normalcy is something she dreams to partake in. But those things like true friendship, falling in love are far cry fantasies that she believes can't truly survive here at least not yet. She can't let herself fall into that state of weakness. Not when she has to claw tooth and nail to get to the top. Not when she becomes tangled up in the woes of Gravefall.
Background:
Born in a small town in the south of the United States, Sybil and her parents moved to Argent when she was 8 to fully realize her potential for figure skating. Her parents, seeing the city as a greater, larger opportunity to open the world to her, quickly placed her in programs, competitions and specially designated schools for athletes in order to cultivate her talent. However, with Figure Skating being as expensive at it is, her parents were forced to return back to their little town where their incomes proved to be more stable to support their child. Invitationals, Grand Prixs, Competitions were won one after the other the older she grew, and slowly but surely sponsors started to trickle in. With the help of her parents back home, Sybil was able to attend one of the best Athletic Boarding Schools the Nation had to offer. Newer, sponsor supported coaches started coming in dictating her lifestyle, organizing her training.
When the war broke out, that bubble of Figure Skating shrunk even more. Before things were organized by her parents, but now that chain of information and command was cut off. Her coaches and her sponsors did that now. Don't worry though, they're fine. They're with the Refugee efforts, they'd always say. Just keep skating. Skate like you've never skated before. Aim for gold, dazzle the world in this time of war. When that's said for years, and years, Sybil felt the need that taking on the ignorance, at least to keep her going.
Worries are as high as ever, incessant in the back of her mind but squashed before competition and athletes and training. She knows that her sponsors are curling things around her in ways politically and emotionally that should be wrong. But maybe if she works hard enough. If she spins fast enough, jumps high enough, skates hard enough, something will happen.
