Description This is my first 'tutorial'. I was giving some tips to someone on a forum, which turned out to become some sort of tutorial, so I completed it for DA. I'm not really a tutorial person, because I think it is better to figure out things by yourself. But I have learned a lot from being in an art school for the past years and I thought it would be nice to share those things.

I think it is these little things that can have a major influence on your artwork. Even if you do not use it, it is important to at least be aware of it.

Please please let me know if this was any kind of helpful to you! Or any other feedback. Everything is welcome. I really want to know what you think of it.

And please share your work with me, if you think my tutorial has been of help with your development! <3 I really hope my tutorial can help haha

Oh and English is not my first language, so some things might be worded a little oddly. At least it is not worded as well as I wanted to, but some things are just hard to translate.

There actually is a lot more I could say, so maybe I will make a part 2 some day. Because this really only just focuses on the effects brightness and saturation.

Edit:
Wow! Thanks for the DD! It means a lot to me I wasn't sure if I should post this tutorial when I made it, afraid that it only made sense to myself XD But now I'm glad I did!

Extremely helpful. I'm usually drawing with pencils so my works are black and white, and lately have started practicing digital painting. With the advice and tips from my awesome friend, I learned that it doesn't matter which color palette you use, as long as you keep your values right (meaning you can use ANY color, but pay attention to hue and saturation). It didn't really make too much sense until i applied that piece of advice on an actual painting and it was a revelation! I pretty much had the same 'discoveries' and learning processes as you wrote in your wonderful tutorial, and now I got to read this to conclude the lesson. It's like it's meant to be

Well done, congrats for the DD

That is great! That means you really understand it. When I created this tutorial I could only hope people would understand what I'm trying to say. When you find out such things yourself you tend to understand them better than when someone else simply tells you all of it. But it is always good to get a sort of confirmation

I find it interesting to see what kind of effect these discoveries have on your pencil drawings!

Thank you!!

You know . . . a 3D colour palette software would actually be really cool. After all, colours are called "colour spaces" in the modern scene of colour theory. Why should artists limit themselves with navigating 2D systems when choosing colour?

Anyways, really good tut! You cover things I find most people not even mention.

Oh yes, I agree! it would make the blending of colors very interesting haha. Although, maybe it kind of takes away from the true quality of the eye of the artist, you know what I mean? It is the way the artist combines colors that makes a painting great or lively (of course that is only one aspect XD). I feel like it would be cheating if the computer would kind of generate that for us haha

And thank you, that's good to hear!

thats true you will learn alot in that short time and you are right, not every tutorial will teach you that that tutorial or techniques will work all the time.

and back to your point yes the little changes make a huge change overall. yes a single adjustment or color correction isnt that great but all the stuff together just looks awesome...

Great tutorial! I've been looking for something like this. I'm always around the forums and people ask a lot of questions about color and lighting, so much so I've considered making a tutorial on it, but I haven't yet and I never know where to direct them too (most just cover color schemes) I end up trying to explain myself but it's hard to do that in words without images.

A part two would be awesome! I think it's really useful, especially for beginners. I see a lot of white backgrounds, white/black highlights (with dodge/burn sometimes) and way too many white eyes.

Thank you!!

Haha I know just how you feel! This tutorial started as me trying to explain that to someone on a forum. But things got a little out of hand haha I think in this case you really need to see what is happening, so adding image is vital

Yeah I have created this tutorial with beginners mistakes like that in mind.Β Part 2 will probably be about reflectiveness and/or perspective. Maybe I should divide it into three parts. I'll let you know when I add another one! ^^

Yeah I started making videos for the most common problems and I can just leave links to those when the same question pops up five times in one day.

I watched you so no need to notify me.
