Description 2005

An image of Dalina, one of my older D&D characters (I've been playing her for about 10 years now). She is a half dwarf, half faerie dragon. Yes I know, and odd combination, but it happened rp wise. She's a second generation character, the daughter of my faerie dragon character Gossamer. (I don't think that I have any images of that faerie dragon anywhere. 0.o)

But none the less, I was playing her using the old 'Council of Wyrms' dragon rules (tweaked a bit as she's from a tiny dragon, not a huge one) but she's been updated into 3.5. (again with the half dragon template tweaked to show her more fey/small heritage)

Her faerie blood made her about a head and shoulder smaller then a typical female dwarf. (about 3'8) It gave her slightly tinier features ect.

If you're curious, due to the rp she was actually raised in an egyptian setting away from her parents in a temple of Bast.

So um, she's an egyptian, faerie, dragon. Um yeah, that doesn't suit me at all.

XD Well it all did happen in the game, she's a 2nd generation character. I RPed a faerie dragon who would polymorph into a tallfellow halfing to adventure. She rescued a dwarf in a dungeon who instantly became smitten with her and even after she finally revealed what she really was he still stayed madly in love with the cute, pixieish dragon.
At one point they had Dalina, and in a huge adventure the children of the characters in the large guild were basically sent into another plane in the distant past... and they wound up in a fantasy Egypt-like setting. It was set up so that when any of them died they would appear back where they left in modern day, but now at the age they had become. Some died right away from a lion attack, some lived on for decades, and some returned old. There was an event in the capital city where most of them lived (many as slaves) where a sphinx-like dragon laid waste to the people there, so most died, and came back to modern day in early adulthood.
Dalina was sold as slave to the temple of Bastet, where they freed her, adopted and raised her as a temple dancing girl. So she has an odd combination of heritage to draw upon. lol (most of the characters who grew up in that adventure still have an Egyptian theme/flair to them.)

That's a very interesting concept. I've never seen a half-faerie dragon, let alone with dwarf blood. I like it.

XD She's a second gen character from when I was roleplaying a faerie dragon (back in AD&D 2nd ed) who liked to stay polymorphed as a halfling. A dwarf she rescued became smitten with that capricious 'halfling' and even after she finally told him she was a faerie dragon he kept after her. Darn it, the way to a faerie dragon's heart is through pie. >.>
But it eventually lead to Dalina.

You should check out the newer picture of Dalina, this one you commented on is ooooold.

Hi there, I'm trying to create a half kender, hald fairy dragon and I was wondering if you could give me an idea of the template you used? This drawing is absolutely adorable and inspired me to make the character, but I've got to get the rules down before my DM will left her come and play (he's a little terrified of what kind of monster I'm creating) Thanks!

Of all oddities I just did a new sketch of the character last week. [link]
And another oddity, her mother (she's a second generation character) was a faerie dragon who like to polymorph into a kender. lol It's how Dalina's parents got together, the dwarf had a crush on the 'cute little kender' that saved him in a dungeon. XD

For actual template, I guess that it would depend a lot on how lenient your GM was. We focus on character first here. I would need to dig up her sheet (it's in this room somewhere, but not within arm's reach right now) but basically she had a negative to strength, a dex bonus, an Int and Cha bonus (much like normal half dragons) and I think a Wisdom one as well, but I can't remember. There was a little natural armor but not much. The biggest benefits though were her euphoria gas breath weapon and winged flight (double her normal speed with perfect maneuverability). She also has her perhensile tail that can't be used in combat but can do some simple grasping/holding (-4 dex to do any holding with her tail). I put in a note that if the race was smaller then tiny (using faerie dragons more like 2nd ed that were smaller then 3rd ed ones) they shrunk one size category, so she's small instead of medium.

Wow! That's awesome. Thank you!

You actually sort of inspired me. When I showed my DM the newest picture of Dalina, he DEMANDED that "When I kill your kender (evil laugh followed by me crying) you have GOT to play something like that." And then...we rolled up a half dwarf faerie dragon, because a half kender faerie dragon would have simply been an exaggeration. I WANTED to play a half lillend-half elf with narcissistic tendencies, but NOooo, you had to pop up and have an awesome idea. So yeah... sorry to rip you off like that, but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?

Actually I really don't like it when somebody directly copies one of my characters, especially one who has been a big part of my home roleplays for over 20 years now. Inspiration for something somewhat similar is another story, but a direct copy isn't flattery and very few people who have had their ideas taken without permission view it as flattery - it's stealing somebody else's idea, hard work, design and character that they put their soul into. What I do suggest is to try and make your own character, it's much more fulfilling in the long run. Change it enough so that it's yours, not a cookie cutter character and design stolen from another person.

It's what I used to suggest to people who would come into my games store with yet another character idea for a two scimitar wielding, good drow ranger with a name sounding something like Drizzt... to really try and pull away from copying somebody else's character. It really feels better in the long run since if you become really fond of this character you can never, ever show them around, draw pictures of them, or claim it as your own since that would cross the line of plagiarism even farther. But if you make your own character and design, it's your own, you can appreciate it, show it, draw it, and let others be more amazed that you came up with something you created rather then have other people scoff that you just stole somebody else's character.

Hmm, I suppose I didn't think of it that way. I should say that my tone was extremely sarcastic in that last sentence, but seeing as the internet is a place where there is no sound/tone, it can be a little difficult to get those kinds of things across. So I really do apologize for that...it's really difficult for me to communicate with others, especially over text.

That being said, I ALSO like keeping my characters original and would never spot for spot rip someone else's character off. That's just no fun for me as a creative person in the long run. I guess I should have elaborated a bit. The only part where I was inspired was your character's race. Faerie dragons ALWAYS play a huge role in our campaigns and it was a really neat thought to include something that was part faerie dragon as a playable character. It's something that, I think, would work really well for me as a person and it's some I never would have thought of. As we were rolling her up I fell more and more in love with the character I was creating in my head. That's the very reason I asked you about the template you used.

Let me tell you a bit about her, since now it's on my mind: Her name is Perezi, and she's a swashbuckler and the unofficial daughter of a dwarven prince, who is now the grandfather of the current ruling king. She has a strong sense of family, which has kept her at the castle for the past 300 years, but at this point her family is starting to get on her nerves, as with each passing generation, she feels a greater distance between her and the royal family. One particularly tumultuous day, a traveling circus (It's my baby) known as Pyraneus Perigot's Wandering Wonderland was passing through. And it was there that she found the potential for a new family.

That's just a bit of it, but I feel really bad right now and I really would like for you to know that, contrary to what it sounded like I said, I'm not ripping off your character. And it's totally my bad that it came off like that.

PookaWitch In reply to TheChaosMuse [2012-03-24 21:51:08 +0000 UTC]

Oh *whew* That's good, the last sentence is what really threw me off and made me worry. I've actually had a HUGE amount of trouble with having my characters stolen in the past (I'm talking people who take my pictures, erase my name and slap theirs on there, then go to other sites and pretty much copy + paste my fiction written about them then claim it for their own). For a time when my characters went through a strangely popular phase it happened nearly weekly (not exaggerating). So I've become really careful and quickly try to stop something like that before it happens and attempt to offer constructive advice.

We've always had a ton to do with faerie dragons in our home games as well (along with my playing a few faerie dragons online). I've always played Dalina as very conflicted about her mixed heritage and has a terrible relationship with her mother (the faerie dragon) and tries to throw herself into dwarven society and mannerisms but fails horribly since her whimsical faerie nature is just too strong and eventually she's doing something strange and very chaotic more like her mother's side of the family. (One dwarf once told her that she was 'cursed with cuteness'.) Being a wild mage doesn't really help matters either. >.>

Ooooh, Perezi does sound neat. You'll have to let me know more as you develop her through RP.

TheChaosMuse In reply to PookaWitch [2012-04-05 06:08:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow, I completely understand how you would be upset now. That's got to be really heart breaking to find a picture you've done with someone else's name on it. And shame on those people, seriously. I'm so sorry I made you think that that is what I was going to do.

Perezi won't have a chance to come out for a little while. Right now I'm simply the kender cavalier/handler (named Nepeta) with a three-quarters gold dragon mate (Her "Shiny)). The DM won't tell us what the other quarter is, and it's driving us crazy. It's really exciting for me because I've never gotten so attached to a character before. Last week I almost lost her (the kender and the shiny share a mental bond through a necklace of true devotion and a dark paladin cursed the Shiny (a seeker of knowledge) with a blood curse that was slowly turning him, and her, into a blood dragon. Shiny sacrificed himself to save my kender, and by a roll of pure luck, managed to come back to life sans memories)And now Nepeta is pregnant with twins. Sorry...I kind of love talking about my campaign. It's ridiculously fun.

BUT Perezi will come around soon enough. And it's going to be interesting because if my kender is there AND Perezi, then I'm going to have to role play them both at the same time. -_-'''

Also, you should keep updating Faerie Raid, because it's pretty dern good. ^_^ I dig it.

Yeah strange combination, but i like hybrid creatures. My fantasy story's main characters are all hybrids. I like dwarf combinations cause the result is alway a cute chubby girl, if we're talking about a female of course I like it a lot, very cute, very sexy Worthy to take her place in my favorites good job!

Of all things I made this character ages before half dragons, even before Council of Wyrms where half dragons were first published. I had played a faerie dragon character who wound up with this really paitent dwarf who just thought she was adorable. Dalina is a 2nd generation character (and grew up in a special rp).

Dalina is proudly a dwarf, she loves her dwarven heritage but her fey side makes her quite unstable. She's always trying to prove herself around dwarves, but then her mind just wanders and she winds up acting very 'non-dwarvish' again. She's small for a dwarf as well, only around 2 ft tall.

Someday.... someday she'll get a dwarven husband and make her daddy proud. *nods*

2ft? hmm that's a gnome's size

I've been rping since I was around 12 (10 if you count the quick, fun rps that my brother would half run for me). So I've been rping for nearly 22 years now.

Yeah, faerie dragons are really tiny, only about a foot long, so Dalina is smaller then a typical dwarf.

Dungeons & Dragons. The first rpg game that was invented back in 1974 (and is still going strong. ^^)
Many of the fantasy rpg video games are loosely based after it (using stats, gaining experience to go up levels ect). And there are even D&D video games, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights ect.

Her mother is a faerie dragon who used magic to change into other species, her father is a dwarf who oddly seemed to like the cute, flighty personality of the faerie dragon. (who he didn't know was a dragon right away, he thought she was a halfling. )

Faerie dragons have been around in D&D for ages. In 3rd ed they changed them for some odd reason. They are basically (in the older version) about a foot long, with colours that change through the rainbow spectrum as they age (red as hatchlings, to violet-black in thier oldest years) with big, colourful butterfly/faerie wings. ^^

My draik Queen_Tasmira is based more after D&D faerie dragons then draiks. (Although I did change her appearance until she was of my own design.)

PookaWitch In reply to megarathewarrior [2006-02-05 15:17:21 +0000 UTC]

*gets ready to talk too much*

D&D is the 'first' rpg game that existed. It was created by Gary Gygax back in 1974. It's based somewhat after LotR, as you typically play humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes or halflings (hobbits). Many of the current video game rpgs were based from D&D. You use dice to determine random effects (such as stats, combat, skill checks ect). Stats are rolled using three 6 sided dice.
It's based in a fantasy world, with dragons, unicorns, faeries, orcs, demons, ect ect ect.
So far it has had many editions and has evolved a 'lot' from the original. There is Dungeons & Dragons, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, AD&D 2nd edition, then on to 3rd edition (that came out in 2000) and now 3.5 edition. lol
They did a revised so quickly of 3rd as they re-did nearly the entire system. (I have to admit I do like it, but it's realy annoying to translate characters from the older systems into 3rd ed). But since they re-did everything, they had many bugs. So quickly 3.5 came out.

But now then have an 'open license' for thier 'D20' system (for 3rd ed and up) which allows other companies to publish and use thier rules (including creature types, classes, races, magic items ect.. but NOT characters, plots, gods, ect.. as that is still copyright infringement). So now there are oodles of games using the same system, but different settings. Such as 'Modern' (a modern fantasy rpg.), Deadlands (an alternate old west setting... with magic and undead) and the list goes on and on and on.

It's why I feel fine about making RoaneAmhran a bronze dragon, as those creatures are open license to use. (again, the 'creature' is open, but the concept of my character is copyrighted.)

There 'was' a D&D movie.. DO NOT SEE IT! (It realy realy realy sucked. -_-)

I think I tried to watch the movie once, but a friend called so I left the room to talk to her. I came back in there and the movie was over. :3
