This really just started out as a quick doodle, to practice with folds and shading...... And then, this is the final result.
(It's kind of a gift for all my little Catholic/Christian homies out there. LOVE YOU ALL!!)I've always wanted to draw my own version of "The Annunciation", and I felt very inspired after seeing [link] by William-Adolphe Bouguereau. It's one of my all time favorite paintings of Mary and Jesus.
Now, then... most Christian folks out there know the basic story to this one.
I always get goosebumps when they read it at Mass.Gabriel: "Hail, full of Grace... the Lord is with you... Blessed are you among women..."
Mary: *was greatly troubled by his words, and wondered what they could mean*
Gabriel: "Fear not Mary, for you have found favor with God. You shall have a Son, and you will call Him Jesus. He will be great, and the Son of the Most High."
Mary: "How can this be, for I do not know man?"
Gabriel: "The Holy Spirit shall come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. And therefore also the Holy which shall be born of you shall be called the Son of God."
Mary: "Then, behold, I am the handmaiden of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to your word."
And with that, the Angel left her...

And I love that Mary looks so shocked! (Wouldn't anyone if they were suddenly visited by an archangel??) And her face is just beautiful.

The red is just striking and not what I'd expect! Plus, Mary looks really flabergasted, which is what I'd imagine more than the traditional art where she looks all complacent.
Just because she's perfect doesn't mean she'd be all, "What the - ?"

but you can never negate the beauty of traditional art. but the one thing that always annoyed me about it is: NONE of the people smile. jesus, mary, &c, &c. and then st paul tells us to "rejoice in the lord alway(kjv)"

oh, okay. lemme check it out. don't worry, i'm not offended. even otherwise, i use a malayalam bible.
and what i meant by "malayalam" is a south indian language is speak. i come from a state in india(india has 29 states) called kerala. it is to india what chile is to south america, except kerala is smaller. the gospel was said to have been brought there by apostle thomas. the kerala christian church has had a long history, and it dates to the first century. the malayalam bible is not very old; it was first published by and englishman called benjamin bailey from the masoretic hebrew text and the textus receptus. therefore, the malayalam bible maintains the essence of the original language while being a translation of the bible in it's own right.
