Description F U S I O N

Yay!! Another nebula from me, this one actually took a little bit longer than most because of the detail. It is not perfect and it is alot like "Electric", but I still like it. I worked a lot on the framing and title, so that is another thing I am proud of. Once again going for the "Aero-Glass" look with the frame, I really like that. Yes, the F in Fusion is oversharpened, for a reason. It accentuates the title.

Stats

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS2
Time Taken: 4 days, on and off

Painted with a Wacom Tablet

Mainly just practicing my technique here. I wanted more highlights on the nebulae gas strokes, so I made a new layer and painted with a 1-pixel wide brush on Linear Dodge for the highlights on the gas clouds.

Thanks to , , and for help, critique, support, and inspiration.

EDIT

Brushed out the texture in the central bar of the nebula and added planets, extra stars, and star flares. Also sharpened the overall image and fixed the F in Fusion. You can see the original, without corrections, here: [link]

oh my dear friend... I am sad to say but you don't quite understand the concept of depth brushing, which is what Nameless wanted you to do when he said "soft round brush, going smaller and harder. but never to 100%".
Your magnificent tunnels and light rays are very contrasted with the messy smudging in the middle.

At first when you came out with this piece I was very disgusted with the extreme sharpness in the middle dust and nebulae, now its the complete opposite. It now looks very artificial.
Once you have accomplished depth brushing of the middle, a texture should be overlayed, not simply added on at "Darken" or similar. Also I think a textured planet would look much better in this piece.
I am not trying to put you down... I am simply trying to give you good critique.

If you would be willing to send me your piece. I would be more than glad to show you what I mean.

Hehe, no problem. Trial and error, my friend. What works works, and what doesn't, well... I see you have already noticed

Yea, it probably deserves some more editing with the planet and all, but since it's a speedpaint, I'm not too bothered. I am confident that I have the tunnels and rays figured out and down... now I just gotta work on the middle column. I have been looking at some of the best lately, Nameless Designer, Alyn, BurningLiquid, Hameed, Sumopiggy, etc. I am in the process of finding a technique that suits me. This one, as you can clearly tell, does not. It is, as you said, messy, sloppy, untextured, and artificial. I added the planets last minute, and in retrospect, it is better without them. I am dismayed to say that the first version may actually be the better.

In the future, keep in mind that I encourage all critique such as this. I noticed that you said you were worried about putting me down, but there is absolutely no offense taken at good, honest critique and commenting such as this. I am probably not going to send you the PS file, mainly because 1) the piece is pretty much done, in my eye, in the aspect that I am probably not going to be changing it, and 2) If you saw the horrible condition under which I organize my layers and files in Photoshop, I would probably be sending you to an early artistic grave

So I guess it is definitely a bittersweet image. If you would like, you can compose a single layer in Photoshop of the gas column and I could add it in and consider it a collab. Which reminds me, are you free next weekend? I will be going to the river this weekend, but if you could have something done by at least this Saturday, I might be able to work on my laptop on my freetime in the evenings . My parents just built a new house out there, and we will be checking it out soon. Keep in mind, no real time restriction here... if you want me to work on a quicky this saturday, I am sure we could get something started and keep working when I get back.

Note me for the rest of this

And thank you very much for the comment. It is a breath of fresh air amidst the "cool" and "nice piece" comments.

i agree with fernando, some dust partciles look way to sharp and pixely. reduces the effect of gas
otherwise its good

it is smudged, i smudged them out further to get rid of the textures. Kinda adds in interesting effect, I think

Again nice ray effect and very good use of lightning the piece looks much better without planets.
I have to say the black dust in next to the centre looks a bit to sharp though... remember its dust!

The rest is well done
