Description ~I c a r u s~

___

A lone planet system idly drifts towards a deep space nebula, remnants of a supernova eons past.
___

I'm extremely proud of this one for a few reasons:

1) I love the way the painted nebula/nova turned out,

2) the colors

3) My impeccable organization on this one . I spent a decent amount of time just organizing the layer masks, individual layers, color balances, hue shifts, and shift layers all in individual folders and groups... I mean, seriously... I even LABELED the layers. That's pretty damn good for me... Usually it takes me an hour and a half just to find the right shadow layer, which is usually named something like "Layer 35, Copy 18. So this was a definite plus. Now I can work easily in this PSD file

Enjoy. I had a blast making it, and it's definitely large enough for prints once I decide to submit it to the print gallery.

Yeah I actually did a double take when I read it, thought it was hilarious. Doesn't take away anything from the awesomeness of course

The planetary details, stars and asteroids are indeed quite nice, and arranged well, too. However I do feel that the nebulae happens to be rather rudimentary looking, in that the thick strokes look rather disjointed and lacking in variation - giving the sense that it is indeed just painted on in a rather flat manner without perspective. The form is quite fine, but it just lacks the perspective of seeming 3-dimensional. Similarly, whilst you like the bright style, I think you can implement it without compromising details. For instance, whilst the centre here and the gas planet's edges look extremely bright, I think it's doable to have these areas look textures whilst extremely bright, think of colour dodge with the softness of light in screenmode or some such. It may be difficult to have it looking similar to how it does now, but it would improve it I think - up to you though. Certainly not a bad piece though, nicely done.

Well spoken, man

Yeah, I understand about the nebula... it probably needs a bit more finishing before it's ready. In either case though. I'll take this with me when I go to edit it

Thanks very much.

i like the way your textures have improved lately, but i still feel that your painting and lighting (though less than the painting) are behind your texture skill. I see some pretty nice parts here and there but as a whole the nebula doesnt do a lot for me. i think it may have to do with that you tend to sometimes overlighten your works too much. This takes away the depth and cancels out possible subtle details within the light transition, which have the potential of adding greatly to the mood of a piece.

One thing a lot of people don't realize though, (including you ) is that this is my "style", per say. I really love the bright lights, and that's why I tend to overlighten stuff

I'll take your suggestions into consideration, especially with the subtle details, but I can't guarantee a complete deviation from my current style XD

In any light though, (no pun intended), thank you very much for the kind words

This is just awesome Scott. You did a fabulous job on the colors and hue. Makes a difference sometimes when you name stuff so if you ever want to go back you have no problem finding what you need. But I believe this one is just perfect the way it is hun.
