Description I originally painted this 1:1 bust (badly) a while ago and thought since my skill has improved it would be a good challenge to see if I could repaint it.

It's still in progress since I have to paint in the eyes, re-sculpt the teeth and then add the quills, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

Spots take a VERY long time to paint on - especially since I'm doing this all by hand.

Love it, love it. Do you use q-tips or some other method to do the detail by hand?

No Q-tips for me - I save those for my ears...I'm weird that way lol!

For shading, I just use a technique called dry-brushing. Its where you put a tiny bit of paint on your brush, wipe most of it off on paper towel, and then apply the remaining amount of paint to whatever it is that you are painting. The paint drys quickly and you actually end up getting a very faint amount of paint on the surface. It tends to wreck the brushes, but if done properly you get a nice faded effect that can look just like an airbrush. Mangrasshopper (Joe) is phenomenal at that technique.

Huh. I thought you were the one that used q-tips; I know someone from the Lair reported using them. Regardless, you did a great job. Now why not get some paints and color your drawings the same way.

I think it was Dwayne that used Q-tips.

As for coloring my drawings - I have tried and I'm horrible at it. I have tried coloring using photoshop, but because I'm such a newb, it takes me forever to use it properly.

Maybe I should try it again with this one...

Do you have a computer drawing tablet? (like wacom for example)

Not using a Wacom, but just coloring it using photoshop:

Bah, it looks awesome! If you shade using your pencils then it makes it easier to color. Just slap on a multiply layer of color or two and the pencil shading takes care of the difference in tone.
