A page from my second sketchbook that I drew Spring 2017. Depicted are the two known species of Archaeopteryx, A. lithographica (left) and A. siemensii (right). I liked the colors I ended up with, although this was before I knew it had some black coloration.Related content

I’ve seen mixed opinions online. But is it more likely for the Berlin Specimen to be Archaeopteryx Lithographica or Archaeopteryx Siemensii?

It's intriguing to see old Archaeopteryx in a more sober plumage than that stem-bird is usually illustrated wearing; I particularly like the rich, though tastefully muted colouration on the left!

Has there been any evidence to it being mostly black? I know of course, forms like Anchiornis were, but last I heard of we only had a single black feather for Archaeopteryx. Lest there's a study I'm unaware of.

Really do look so much more like birds than lizards. I do love the ideas of them having so much colouration
