Description
Bionic Commando (NES) - Radd Spencer.I drew this before but couldn't color it due to mad amounts of eraser burn. Based the look on official art seen on the Capcom Classics Collection vol.1 (where the rifle is black instead of white or light gray) and the post-Level pic where it says, "You got 3-way gun" or such.

There needs to be a lot more fan art of the original Bionic Commando.

Hard to imagine that an 8-Bit video game is far better than a game from 2009... but at least Re-Armed looked recognizable to the original and it kept the flat platform gameplay. It wasn't turned into a 3rd person shooter like the 09 game. Yes his left arm is completely artificial... but it's sill better than what than what the 09 game had and it's idiotic "shock and all" moment...

Agreed 100%. I'm glad that Capcom kept the same thing from happening with Strider, because that's a case where we got the Re-Armed without the bigger reboot game.

Thanks! I don't really get why most visual design teams do what they do when redesigning characters and rewriting stories, but I'm not in the target teen-to-25 age range that they're trying to appeal to. I've definitely seen worse revamps than what Spencer got with the recent games, but I still stick with the NES looks whenever I can.

Yeah, this is the one that I grew up on and it's still my favorite version of the game. BC ReArmed was cool, but this is the version I always make art, sprites and custom figures of.

I actually find "Bionic Commando" too difficult to play.

The NES version? I'll give you a few tips.
1.) Find enemies in Area 1 that screen-move respawn in easy places that make them easy to shoot. Do that for a while until you collect enough bullet pick-ups to boost your max health to a comfortable point.
2.) You can get more continues from the picking up a bonus item in those overhead truck stages.
It takes a while to get used to the bionic wire controls but it becomes second nature once you do.

Glad you like it! I guessed from a pic in the old manual that his outfit was just a standard military BDU and seeing another official pic of it years later pretty much confirmed it. You can see that official picture on the Capcom Classics Collection vol. 1 as unlockable art.
I don't have any of the recent gaming consoles so I haven't played Reloaded 1 or 2 yet. Those will be two of the first DLC games I'll get once I get a modern machine though!

I've been drawing something close to that same design once I figured out that he was wearing a standard Battle Dress Uniform and sketched details from that post-stage screen. I've drawn some other pics and even customized two action figures like that so it's the one I feel comfortable drawing. Plus, the NES version is still my fave version.
