It's hard to photograph children without it seeming either cutesy or creepy; however, I think this photo walks that line very well, attending to traditional rules like composition and variance in texture, while also conveying an open-ended emotion--that is to say, the emotion conveyed could be different for each viewer, which makes it an intimate image for everyone. This effect is increased by the artist's choice to present it in black and white; this gives the vague sense that subject could be any color, any race, any ethnicity. She could the viewer's daughter, their sister, their childhood friend, or even the viewer themselves. I think "open-ended" art is some of the very best kind; although at first glance it might seem "generic" or lacking orginality, it has the capacity to be therapeutic to anyone who views it in exactly the way they need. This is very nicely done.

This resembles the girl from the other photo, I mean let's say...the one in the photo entitled "Waiting for Autumn" is that exactly? Let's just mean that this child is the little and young version of that picture.

The fact that she picked the clothes and pose herself and then made sure you took pics means to me that she is quite exceptional and destined for wonderful things.

It's a lovely shot -- i think the contrast level of the b&w setting is perfect.
Love that her hair and hands are in focus.
And the fact that the details of her sweater is highly visible gives more depth to the photograph.

This is a beautiful picture and an excellent composition. I love the variations of texture. The lines from the shirt and hair give a sense of movement and make it easy to see the whole picture. The eyes seem a bit dark in relation to the hands, but I realize that's probably intentional.
