Description: The Gerrothorax is a genus of Temnospondyl that lived from the middle to late Triassic Period, fossils have been discovered in Germany, Sweden, Greenland, and possibly from Thailand, but we aren't too sure just yet. This primitive amphibian has a flattened body structure with an unusually shaped skull that makes it seem similar to the Diplocaulus, despite the 2 amphibians being unrelated, it most likely used its flattened body to hide among the dirt and sandy bottom of rivers and lakes for ambushing small prey, how it hunted is still a mystery, some speculate that it used suction feeding to catch smaller prey, but the Gerrothorax lacks cranial kenisis. One of the most interesting features of the Gerrothorax is fossilized evidence of preserved bony gill arches next to the neck, this shows us that an adult Gerrothorax kept its larval gills from when it was young into adulthood, this is similar to modern day Mudpuppies, Axolotls, and Olms that keep their larval gills as an adult, this kind of trait is known as neoteny. Fossils of the Gerrothorax also show that despite the amount of time it had on Earth, the genus never changed appearance from when it first appeared to when it became extinct, this is a sign of evolutionary stasis, scientists believe that the Gerrothorax was able to adapt to a wide variety of ecological conditions as long as it had a source of water to thrive in, thus remaining unchanged for millions of years before it became extinct.

Personal Thoughts: I have heard about the Gerrothorax before, it is an interesting primitive amphibian to feature in a prehistoric zoo. I do love the way this one looks in the game with the dirt brown coloring to blend in with the tank floor. I definitely recommend checking it out. It has no bugs or glitches, the modeling and textures are realistic and most likely accurate, and it can breed properly. But one thing I do need to note is that, even though it is not a bug or a glitch, this Gerrothorax gives live birth, I do know there are Toads in the genus Nectophrynoides that give live birth, but I would think that the Gerrothorax would lay eggs like Salamanders. But this minor thing doesn't affect its gameplay in the slightest.
My Rating: 10/10
