Description: The Xenacanthus is an extinct genus of primitive freshwater Shark that lived from the Late Devonian Period to the end of the Triassic Period. Fossils of this ancient Shark have been found all around the world, with 21 known species discovered and described found so far, each one varies in size, the average length is only 3.3 feet long, but no Xenacanthus species is able to grow bigger than 6.6 feet in length. It's body shape is much different than the Sharks that are alive today, with a long, ribbon-like dorsal fin that went down the length of its back, around the tail and joined at the anal/cloacal fin, this kind of fin arrangement is similar to modern Conger Eels, some scientists believe that the Xenacanthus may have swam in a similar manner to Conger Eels. One of the most distinctive traits of the Xenocanthus is the long spike growing from the back of the head, we still aren't sure what this spike was used for, but many have speculated that this spike could have been venomous, similar to the barb on Stingrays, which are often known to be fatal if not treated or if struck in vital organs, this speculation is very reasonable due to Sharks and Rays being closely related, both are cartilaginous fish, but we don't have evidence of possible venom yet, as all we have of the animal are its spike and teeth. The sharp teeth of the Xenacanthus had a V shape, this shows it was indeed a carnivore, it most likely would have fed on smaller crustaceans and palaeoniscid fish that were heavily scaled for protection, the teeth of the Xenacanthus would have been more than capable of piercing the tough exterior of these prey items, while the Xenacanthus could have been prey for larger animals, unless the venomous spike theory is correct.

Personal Thoughts: I have heard about this and other primitive Shark species like it, I think it would be perfect to have in a prehistoric zoo to show the evolution of Sharks. I absolutely love how realistic this Xenacanthus is in the game, it fits that prehistoric zoo idea perfectly. The only minor issue I did find with this one is that it gives birth to fully grown adults, but this does not effect the overall gameplay of this animal. Other than this minor issue, there are no major bugs or glitches, the modeling and textures are very realistic, and it does breed properly. I highly recommend checking this one out and putting it in a prehistoric zoo or aquarium.
My Rating: 9.5/10
