Today, let's look at two single stage Pokémon. I went through a bit of a design crisis with this one. The leaf headband originally was a simple rope like you would see on Japanese sumo wrestlers and taiko drummers. For a while the drum was the Pokémon's belly instead, like the Tanuki of folklore would drum on their bellies. Obviously I wouldn't draw a certain other exaggerated body part these particular yokai are known for... Eventually I decided the tail should be it's drum instead, opting for a sleeker body shape, with the rope headband turning into leaves, as tanuki are often depicted with leaves on their foreheads. I quite like this design now
