Inaugurating the lines Canadian service in 1870, the Canadian operated with her three sister ships, Alaskan, Mountain and Russian. Though not as fine as their counterparts on the New York run, the ships earned a reputation for safe and comfortable voyages. The ships remained on the route until 1884 when the company undertook a massive modernization and expansion. The Canadian herself was sold off while the other three were placed on different routes for the company.
