It is a screaming crime that the NYC didn't save a Hudson and a Niagra. Thank goodness the PRR had the foresight to put together the collection in Sunbury.

Mohawk 2933 is in the Museum of Transport. She has the Central family appearance, so she's a beautiful engine even if not a Hudson. And #3001 is at Elkhart, Ind., another 'looker'.
A minor point, but the PRR collection was stored in Northumberland (just across the river from Sunbury) until going to RRMP.

the locomotive crews begged management for one of each class to survive, one Niagra, one Mohawk, one Hudson, and a few in between! THE MAN WHO DENIED THEM IS A REAL JERK AND HE WILL PROBABLY BE HIT BY A REPLICA HUDSON!! They are my 3rd favorite NYC engine, my first being Mohawks, second 999 because it is faster than City Of Truro (still like it though), hudson, and fourth is the Mercury mostly because of the stories my grandparents have about the Mercury and the other NYC trains where they lived, as well as the occasional Pennsy ride (which told me to never ride a steam-heated pullman in northern New York state in winter)

Well there is this group known as 'The Hudson Steam Locomotive Revival Project' that is planning to build a few full size scale replica of a NYC Hudson. So maybe we will see a new Hudson built in the future.

If railfans had been a bit more organized, they could have saved some important engines that are now extinct, if the railroads themselves wouldn't.
