This is so interesting!!!! I love how you put them all together and the M is truly magnificent!!! But I am MOST intrigued, my mom has a rhyme similar to this but for any blackbird that you see, probably ravens mostly but hey where we live all there are are crows. it goes 1 is for sadness, 2 is for mirth, 3 is for marriage, 4 is for birth. 5 is for laughing 6 is for crying 7 is for sickness 8 is for dying. 9 is for silver, 10 is for gold, 11 is for a secret that will never be told! I love myths and oral tales like this. Its so interesting to see how they change (or stay the same)

wow, these are all gorgeous... love the effect they have all together.

have you ever thought about illustrating a tarot card pack? I feel like you'd make a really special one -- there's something intensely spiritual about your work

Lovely grouping of your new Magpie watercolor paintings, Stephanie-chan.  I also enjoyed the neat poem.  Thank you for sharing it with us.

This is really beautiful and kind of fitting for the book I'm reading which is called 'One for Sorrow, Two for Joy' by Clive Woodall which does feature magpies but they aren't as friendly as your ones.

Always loved this rhyme, did you know theres another version where the beginning is a little different?
One for sorrow, Two for mirth, Three for a wedding, Four for a birth ..the rest is the same. Though either version may have Ten changed to 'Ten is a bird you must not miss.'
Beautiful artwork, as always, enviously beautiful.

Yeah, as with all oral folklore, there are many different versions!  Things get changed around in the retelling over and over. Thanks!

Wow, this was very nice!  Thank you for sharing your beautiful artwork.  By the way, did you borrow this poem from another author for this?  Or did you actually write this?  Because it's a beautiful poem

Such beautiful illustrations! They seem to be full of thoughts and emotion, I love them! And that's why I'm really happy to finally see them combined in one piece together with the poem.
