But yeah, when you think of it the villagers, especially the one's you can marry, are very superficial. Your entire relationship is practically based on gifts. I think this is one of the reasons I really loved AWL when a lot of people didn't, because it's relationship building was SO GOOD. The characters all had a wide variety of things to say and lots of heart events and lots of depth to their characters and while you could give them gifts to up their affection it goes up just fine gradually over time just from talking to them. And that seems a lot more natural and well paced.
Though I still love FoMT, I've been playing it lately and it made me remember why I love it so much. You can practically industrialize that freakin' farm. They give you a hell of a lot of land that can be tilled, you can plant SO MANY CROPS and make such HUGE pastures. I have like a hundred stalks of corn it's amazing. And with Harvest Sprite labor I can actually take care of it all. There's no way I'd be able to manage that much land by myself, thank goodness for the Harvest sprites!
Plus even if they all repeat like the same phrase every heart cycle the characters are at least all cute with diverse personalities and occupations.
Haha, sorry for ranting games I like tend to have that effect on me!

This is something that Popuri apparently needs to keep in mind. And it's important to note in any relationship, really. You can't buy someone's love or friendship, right, right? I remember someone once tried to 'apologize' to me by buying me a book. I appreciate the gesture but that's not how you get someone to forgive you.

Also, the mother doesn't open her eyes. For the entire comic she doesn't open her eyes. Now we'll never know what eye color she has.

Actually in the game Lillia (the Mother) never opens her eyes. She's like Brock. That's why she doesn't open them in the comic otherwise they would have probably been open in that last panel to give her a more shocked expression and so she can actually see the gifts.

the only harvest moons i played were back to nature and hero of leaf valley, if they make one for wii u i would buy a wii u for it.
for hero of leaf valley i am conflicted between jack x katie and jack x dia.

The only Harvest Moon game I've played is Another Wonderful Life (girl version) and I thought the relationships were nice buildups (maybe because I gave away too many gifts XD)

Like I said in my description, I thought AWL had great relationship building in it. The amount of different dialog per character, the amount of heart events and the fact that characters would naturally build relationships just from talking at a decent pace was great.
In most of the early HM games, characters all repeat the same dialog over and over and there's no way you're going to be able to increase character's affection fast enough without gifts. Like, in FoMT it would take you two seasons just to get to 2 hearts. (Out of 7.)

It is if you don't use gifts, but no one would try that in the early games. That's just making things take three times as long, what's the point in that?
Yeah, even the hardest to get characters in that game aren't that difficult, especially with enough presents.
