shiori grew up in an average household in sakai, osaka prefecture; older brother, younger brother, baby cat (mimi). hardly anything was ever out of the ordinary. his father worked a desk job at a fairly well-off company, his mother took care of them from home. that’s just how it was. until dad gets a job opportunity all the way in nagasaki, and they’re packing their bags and moving hours away. the new dialect is ?? to his ears, and 4th graders can be pretty merciless sometimes, so shiori ends up mixing the two dialects together and sticking with it. he shoots up like a beanstalk in middle school, attracting members from every sports team in the school. all of them. volleyball is first, (and the most persistent, really), followed by basketball, tennis, soccer, ~*Assorted Others*~, and finally, baseball.

shiori sticks with baseball from middle school up because hitting balls with a metal bat is surprisingly therapeutic, and you know, baseball booties. he applies to ushigome just because it’s not hard to commute to.

friendly (like a puppy) | works diligently on his own, but enjoys the company of friends | nearly honest to a fault (sometimes gets a little blunt. insensitive) | volume control (talks too loud, talks too softly) | bluntness causes questioning of emotional genuinity (“if you’re my friend, how could you say something like that?”) | sometimes vacant/hard to read | tall, aloof persona in public w/o friends (resting bitch face)

shiori tries his best to be friendly and courteous; making sure he speaks up when he has to stand for the class, holding doors open for others. although generally ‘softer-spoken’, he can be loud when he wants to, raucous laughter at mediocre jokes and a sneeze you can hear four blocks down. when talking with friends his volume control is often faulty, and he’ll go from sharing a conspiratory whisper to nearly shouting across the classroom. despite this, he’s a pretty good secret holder. shiori can be honest to a fault at times, bluntly telling friends harsh truths and undiluted opinions. his occasional insensitivity has the tendency to make him come across as fake-emotional, or “actually rude, but pretends to be nice” to strangers who catch him in the act. shiori’s usually (?) a pretty easy person to read--his expressions tell it all--but, when he’s thinking hard enough, it’s hard to tell how he’s feeling.
