Description This is super old. SUPER. Old.

And yet it manages to still be one of my better digital pieces despite being over a year old and unfinished. I may try to finish it, with a simple background or something. I'm getting Photoshop CS6 on Wednesday (or when ever Adobe finally decides to send me the god damn code), so then would be a good time.

I am hoarding expensive things in preparation for art student poverty.

In case you don't know, this is based on an Eastern European folktale. Basically there is a witch named Baba Yaga who lives in a cottage that walks around on giant chicken legs. I just steampunked it. She also flies around in a cast iron cauldron. I loe folktales.

The two of you who actually went to my short-lived artblog will have seen the sketch for this.

I'd like to use the picture above (Baba Jaga by Pythosblaze) on my website. Is that possible? I'll be happy to give you all details or whatever info you would like if it IS possible. I see that you sell prints but I haven't seen anything about licensing usage. TIAΒ  if you have time to reply!

I know of this witch because I watched this CRAZY movie called Jack Frost... And Baba is in it. Hilarious c: This is way better than the movie version though.

I read a book that had a similar story in a Mexican tone. She ate children and had some sheep or cactus as minions living in that moving house. Scared me as a kid.

I love this, it's so full of character! (Not that I'm biased, loving folk tales and Baba Yaga) I'm especially fond of the feet, they're dainty yet strong-looking.

I always thought that Baba Yaga flies around on a broom. And the only way that you can reach her home is through a river of fire! I actually think I learnt a folktale about her in school.

Pythosart In reply to kioukjioy [2012-05-15 16:30:10 +0000 UTC]

That's not the version I've heard. I've heard that she flies around in a butter churn, a cauldron, or a mortar and pestle, using th4 pestle to steer.

I don't know, there are a lot of versions. The one I mentioned was the one my grandma used to scare me with when i was a kid.

this is probably my favourite peice of yours. You've given it so much depth and style, the tones are wonderful and I love the slight linework on the shading of the second leg, the anatomy and the little details like that arch thing on the side, designed for wall creeping plants.

I'd love to see what you can do with it by finishing it, but, honestly, I love it the way it is now xD

So what would the witch ride as a steam punk cauldron?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pythosart In reply to unusable [2012-05-14 10:17:52 +0000 UTC]

A regular cauldron with some gears glued on. Or maybe a furnace or something.
