I love a good snake spotting! Usually takes me by surprise, although last year I spotted a basking adder in the spring and she continued to pick the same spot throughout the summer. Really hoping she comes back to the same spot this year too! Nice shot!

Be glad that the only venomous snake there isn't dangerous to people. A wet bite (a bite that injects venom; a dry bite is just that...dry...no venom) from any venomous snake in America will kill ya without prompt administration of antivenin. For serious.

We are lucky to have no dangerous animals in the Wild here...apart from the Big Cats that are out there,,,

It's strange to me to see a snake in the water. I like how you got him looking right at the camera. The ripples around his head are great too.

Ah, too bad. It's hard to get good animal shots sometimes. Just have to take what they give you. I suppose he may have been camera shy.
You taking' my picture? You takin' MY picture...grrrr
Well snakes can't growl but you get the idea. I don't know what a flattened hood threat would sound like.

Next summer, get yourself down to Dorset the heathland contains the largest number Adders in the UK, so I've been told.
Saw one in Feb '92, on the road next to Glastonbury Tor, Somerset. Sadly it had been run over though still alive, so I gave it some tobacco (nicotine is a poison to reptiles) so it would die peacefully. I have its skin.

We had a rosie boa for a while. I like snakes, just not the ones that bite!
