Description An adventurer at the end of the day. I guess I wanted better but rather than fix to what I wanted, easier to start a new one and be more cautious.

Amazing stuff, digital art. Do you use a photo as reference for your character, I'm curious?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Quandtum In reply to SharkHarrington [2011-11-24 05:13:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, it depends on what it's regarding, but generally speaking, yes photo references are very useful and if I'm uncertain, I will find what I can. Sometimes it is just tweaking until it intuitively looks right (to me, which is usually wrong to everyone else), or I will just grab something from around the house (or go for a walk in the neighborhood) and find something similar to what I am looking for and see how it looks different as the light changes. One thing I do is change the light to many different angles and positions and try to get it to look as best I can from as many positions as I can... then when I put it in my final setting, it's pretty worked in and "correct". Hopefully that helps your answer your question, and thank you very much for the comment, I appreciate it

You don't need to add more background stuff in this picture: she is walking pensive, the battle place may be far away enough.
She seems to have lost someone/something precious. A whole story may start from here.

The render of the skin of the body is a complete success, as for everything else, the only exception being the weird look of the face: a little too much specularity, but that could also be interpreted as perspiration.

That said, I fully understand why your picture has been featured: it is really beautiful

Quandtum In reply to Phyl-CGI [2011-11-22 02:31:10 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the feedback it helps! I think this one (and a couple others I felt) the setup was so basic so it felt like I didn't do enough, so somehow rationalized the need to do more (specifically some battle scars would have been fun). I agree with the face, my skin settings in combination with the light angle were causing me some challenges (or I should have done some post-pro). I had a lot of fun with this one and hopefully moving forwards I'll be able to maintain the good and improve the imperfections. Again, I thank you for your feedback

Kelesia [2011-08-02 02:25:36 +0000 UTC]

I had no idea you could export from daz to blender. This render is superb.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Quandtum In reply to Kelesia [2011-08-03 12:17:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I have a little trick that makes it all go better too. I actually export from Daz/Poser as an .obj (if from Poser you will need to manually copy textures to the export location). When importing I import to Blender 2.49b and select to separate mesh by "Material". Once the import is complete, I save the .blend and then open it in Blender 2.5x. I haven't looked through all the importer options for Blender 2.5x to figure it all out, but it fail with it's default import options. Once I have it open in Blender 2.5x, I "merge" all the materials using the same texture settings (to simplify things later). So for example, the legs and arms will share the "limbs" textures, I turn them both into a single "limbs" material rather than 2 separate materials from the import. ... and sorry, I know you didn't ask but I like to encourage people to venture and try Blender

Also, thank you very much for the comment and compliment I appreciate it!

I haven't logged into IM in so long I forget what/where my account even was. I will see if I can find it though and let you know, in the meantime, if you want, just drop me a note here on DA and I'll get back as quickly as I can.
