Development for "Gluttony" from my animation-in-progress animation this semester at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore.

He is meant to embody consumerism, decadence, wealth, and gluttony. In the end we all return to the earth, no matter our wealth or social standing, and he gets devoured by Mama Nature and her children.

Eeeek, I love character study and development pages like these ;A; They inspire me! I love the different changes and how drastically different he ended up in comparison to the first design - what a lovely course of changes and tweaks. I might look at more of these that you have c:

....I just took another look at this, and for some reason, the uncolored finalized sketch with those hands reminded me so damn much of The Wall by Pink Floyd, specifically The Trial. XD Hahaha I started hearing in my head "GOOD MORNING, THE WORM, YOUR HONOR~! ♪ The crown will now plainly show.."

I like him. And I honestly really like his thin, slender hands since hands somehow don't really get fat easily, and thin, almost feminine hands to me always looks like someone who wouldn't do any physical labor if his life depended on it (he has servants for that...), while bigger hands would get a little... truck-driver/lumberjacky. Sweet work with him.

You have a real talent for exaggerating physical features just enough to bring a mood or point across, but not enough to make it unrealistic. It is really interesting to see the different concepts and steps in character design. I hadn't really thought before about changing character designs and trying out new ones, but it definitely makes you characters amazing. You can really see all the effort you have put in this, and it is amazing.

Wasnt purple the most expensive color to dye in the early ages? Due to it's difficulty?

LeoLeonardo-III In reply to CajesTheTabby [2012-02-25 15:02:56 +0000 UTC]

Um, I don't think so. I think blue was slightly easier to make. Purple was made from the indigo plant.

Yes. Blue was a very expensive dye, which is why on church windows Mother Mary was usually shown wearing blue clothes. It was the church's way of showing off their wealth.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

quartervirus-archive In reply to CajesTheTabby [2012-02-26 01:26:17 +0000 UTC]

Purple and blue were both expensive dyes, but in color psychology purple is associated with magic, spirituality, and regal/royal characters, whereas blue reflects more calm, collected personalities. It worked better.
