Description
Traditional drawing of Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Today I was in the right mood to finish this drawing, because I received my Avengers - Age of Ultron Steelbook!
I need to draw women more often, because it's much more easier/fun for me to draw men's faces... Their faces are just so smooth that it becomes boring so I always tend to rush everything and I should stop picking references with very pale colours/skin, because my scanner tends to turn some pale colours white.
Reference was a promo picture of Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill from the movie "The Avengers" (2012).
Paper DIN A4 190g/mΒ² (size of the drawing = 14,7cm x 18,5cm); Faber-Castell Polychromos artists' colour pencils, Copic Ciao and Sketch marker, Copic Multiliner 0.05 & 0.3, uni-ball Signo pigment ink um-153 white; time: >10 hours

I am looking at the hair and trying to decipher your steps. How did you get the look of the individual strands? Particularly the perfectly done highlights? Was that with the use of the markers, a white pencil, or a combination?

Yes, it was a mixed media combination. I used different shades of cold gray and a bit warm gray Copic marker for the base layer of the hair. Then I added colored pencil > mainly black, gray, "cinnamon" for the skin parts (then blending with intermediate colours and highlights a bit with white) and a few strands with black multiliner. In the end I used a white gel pen for the shiny highlights (I refined/adjusted the white lines with colored pencil to make them thinner).
