Taking all and giving
Whatever my pride would let me
Not backing down, not giving in
I wouldn't lose, I couldn't die!

- Last man standing by Hammerfall

Name:
Arokh
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Birth month: August
Patron God: Ignacio
Breed: Kirin
Height: 16.3hh
Coat Color: Blood Bay
Herd Affiliation: Serora
Rank: Outcast

Personality:

Proud/Arrogant: Sometimes, Arokh is so confident that his confidence turns into arrogance. He often rushes into situations with sarcasm and glib wit. Without stopping to think of a better, more logical course of action or thinking someone might know better. Often he overestimates his own capability thinking he is stronger and more brilliant than he really is. Trying to be better than he is. Seeking to gain approval, praise and admiration from those around him which he claims to not need but absolutely craves.

Honorable and compassionate: Arokh is a decently principled fellow in his own right. While he may not show it or let people close on personal levels easily, he does care about those around him and isn’t above trying to help someone. He is, at his most basic nature, a protector. And not even his own protests to the contrary will change it. He tends to feel that the strong should stand for those weaker than themselves. There is no shame in not being a fighter. But there is in abusing others if the only way you feel big is picking fights where you’re the clear victor and putting others down then you are the worst kind of coward.

Stubborn: If there is a word that Arokh’s picture would stand beside it is stubbornness. Once he sets his mind to something, he won’t stop until he has succeeded. And what he doesn’t succeed, he beats himself up over. Push comes to shove, the proud bastard that he is would sooner succumb to total exhaustion than admit defeat or back down when challenged or his mind is set.

Reckless: By no means is Arokh the brightest spark in the fire. He has a brain, but it tends to be more geared towards improvisation in the heat of the moment. Occasionally, there will be some clever or daring strategy to it. But far more often he charges head first into danger and trust that he can get out of it okay. Part of him honestly enjoys the thrill of it.

judging and Guarded: Arokh is often on the impersonal and even a harsh judge about those around him and their actions "well they're doing that cause he's an asshole". As proud and fiery as his nature, he’s quick to make snap judgements about others. Keeping them at arm's reach or further if he sees them as not worth his time. makes him hard to get to know on more than a surface level since he'll hardly be the type to start any meaningful conversations or open up to someone unless he feels close already which given the aforementioned issues is a hurdle. Opening up to another doesn't just let them in. It gives them power to hurt him and that pain is something he does not want.

Difficulty letting go: Whether it's a grudge, mistakes, people who have died, emotions or relationships. Arokh has a tough time with letting things go, end or move on even if its the right thing in principal. It also takes a lot for him to forgive someone as their perceived wrongs cling to him like thorns just as much as his own mistakes do and things that have made him happy like friendship doesn’t come easy to him. It never has. Those bonds that he does form with others for one reason or another are ones he treasures, respects, and truly cherishes above all else. Of course he'd want to hold on to them. He fears and hates the powerless feeling that comes with loss and grief. The fact that there is nothing that can be done about such tears him apart.

Xenophobic: He’s convinced Kirin just are just mentally and physically superior. No real hate or malice behind it. Just a fact like "The sky is blue." "Breathing is good for you." and "Ignacio is best god." this feeds into both his protective instincts and his own arrogance and ego now that he's among a diverse herd. While individuals can make him rethink this line of thought, as it applies to them specifically. He just starts to see them as exceptional members of their kind, rather than his entire idea being wrong.

History:

His Former life:
Arokh's birth was made complicated as he originally was going to be a twin. It cost nearly all of them their lives as Arokh barely survived the process and only because of the skill and determination of the doctor and his own apparent will to stay alive fighting for every breath he took.

Arokh's father, Dunenor though did not take it well. it twisted in him deeply and he honestly found himself disgusted by his son. His bay coat which he claimed was forever soaked in the blood of the lives he took at birth. As far as he was concerned, Arokh may as well have been the malicious, blood-thirsty demon. The centuries would remember their kind as. How else would one view a monster who had killed both his mother and brother to exist? though he never harmed Arokh his words always cut deep. He was just a child who like many simply wanted his dad to love him and hoped that he could make him proud. Instead Arokh was always given the cold shoulder. starved of that affection and often told he was lucky his sire was kind and soft hearted enough to give him that much in his saintly mothers memory.

All the blame of their deaths and the guilt went on Arokh. The moment Dunenor could be rid of him he took it. He gave up his son as a recruit to the hoplites. Figuring that the military life would sort him out and he would no longer be his problem. Though he fully expected to receive word of the kid getting thrown out as a failure with that temper of his and if he didn’t he was sure he’d get himself killed on the battlefield someday.

Arokh for his part was hurting and angry, which made him reckless. He wasn’t useless. He wasn’t a monster and he fell back time and time again. Trying to prove he was worth being there, he was worthy of being alive. Though in truth, the red colt was trying to prove it to himself more than anyone after so long of his father’s disdain. Treated as though he were a blot on existence, he started to wonder himself if his survival had been an accident that had never meant to happen.

He lashed out. He got into more than a few fights with fellow recruits. He was almost expelled, but one of the trainers saw promise in him and his stubborn will and his bold almost fearless thirst  to prove himself.

She took some personal time one on one to get to the root of some of his issues. She took him to the training ground one evening and encouraged him to let loose there. Sparring with the child, running him through his paces, talking to him all the while giving him other things to focus on. The session ended with Arokh breaking down sobbing while the trainer simply let him cry into her shoulder.

While the session helped him. It didn’t dispel all his pain and, though it did help him shelve it and move forward. With a new resolve in his training. The remaining anger and drive pushing him to be better, stronger and train harder.

During the course of his training he had some rapport with some of his fellows and as those few relationships grew. Arokh’s confidence seemed to do likewise from bold as brass bravado to something more solid and genuine, he could back up with skill.

It was a slightly younger recruit though who really pushed and locked antlers with him by the name of Tabvara. She was a wide eyed idealist proud sassy and who seemed to want to beat Arokh each and every time they were pitted against each other. Making sparks fly whenever she and Arokh were sparring and exchanging trash talk

He’d call her ‘Tabs’ which always sent her tail lashing and objecting that she was not a cat and she’d snark call Arokh ‘Rocky’ for all the rocks in his head and RoRo whenever she felt she particularly wanted to annoy him in return. They pitted themselves against each other determined to out do each other and coming to greatly respect each other.

By the time they graduated as full fledged and grown hoplites, there was something more of a friendship between the two that could remind others of bickering siblings. Woe-betide-any who would mess with either, while the other was around to hear about it.

Arokh’s heart and soul was for Ignacio and his country for the purpose and fulfilment he found in his role even before the bond to their god turned toxic. Most of what Arokh remembers of the atrocities and slaughter, a blur of crimson which he can barely Just a cocktail of hate and spite and righteous fury which felt right, thrilling and powerful and intoxicating in ways he can’t describe...until it came to his last moments.

Arokh had just dispatched a foe when he saw a foe strike Tabvara down. Scarlet staining her white coat and their weapon. Arokh lunged wildly and was wounded in the fight with Tabs’s attacker but he cared more about getting her away to a healer there had to be something someone could do. Pleading with her to stay with him. He wasn’t going to let her die like this. They were going to survive and see the end. The glorious end where all the world would be bathed in the glow of their god’s fire.

He tried to move her but couldn’t though it didn’t stop him from trying as more foes descended and closed in to finish them.

It was there that Arokh took his last stand fighting valiantly to the last moment trying to keep them away while his friend pleaded weakly with him to leave her and save himself. He was overwhelmed and his wounds slowly bleeding out didn’t help. the last thing he heard and saw was Tabs final scream of pain as her life was ended and the overwhelming knowledge that he had failed her.

Resurrection:

He’d always proven to be a resilient bastard. Decidedly hard to kill. Stubbornly clinging to life. And now in a flash of brilliance the boy is back and his father rolls in his ashen grave for it. He found himself in the desert land of Serora. Disoriented, confused and now under the watchful eyes of the squad of screamers who found him. while he tries to make sense of things and what this band of horses told him of how much has changed.
