Not sure where this came from. I think I'd been wanting to branch out into trying something more landscape or animal-related. Sort of testing the waters and stretching myself a bit. I made the conscious choice to have the leopard facing away from the viewer, looking out across the plains toward Mt. Killimanjaro. I'm not sure how to articulate why it was important or what it means, but I think it has to do with trying to convey a sense of quiet wonder in the face of the beauty of the world beyond. As though the leopard is joining the viewer in looking out in awe at the vista, rather than being the subject of it.Or maybe I'm just wee-todd-ed and should have made the leopard facing the viewer to engage them.

A leopard was found DEAD on the mountain. Lying there for years. Gone now, but the spot is named.

To let the leopard look into the landscape - as the viewer does - is a good move! It tells a story. First he was just hanging out having a rest and maybe enjoying the view (if one can imagine that animals are able to do that too). And then those zebras are running closer to him, totally unaware of his presence. But he's not hungry enough to give up his shady place . . .

I honestly thought it was a picture at first, it is realistic as well as matches the style you drew the leopard in. Bravo!

i love this picture I don't see too much that isn't anime related lately on DA, not saying I hate anime or anything, cuz I don't I just think it is awesome to have a change for a while.

If you ever get that little twinge that says 'grr....face me kitty!' all you have to do is re-draw the kitty's face, facing us. Teehee, but thats just if you're feeling lazy.

True, with digital, I can always go back and "tweak" it if so inclined. I guess what I really was drawing was the background landscape, and that's where I wanted the attention to be drawn (hence the leopard facing away). The kitty is just foreground decor
