"To gaze upon this beautiful and engaging creature is an opportunity to view a living relic."
~ Cat Fanciers' Association, about the Egyptian Mau.

Tahirah (meaning "pristine") is based upon the Egyptian Mau, an ancient breed shrouded in mystery. Rumored to have existed back in Ancient Egypt as a direct descendant of the African wildcat (Felis silvestris lybica), the ancestor of domestic cats, the Egyptian Mau is perhaps the very first breed of cat.

The Egyptians venerated this cat. It was a beloved pet, protected by laws, and mummified and mourned upon in death. In fact, if anyone killed a cat, either intentional or unintentional, he was sentenced to death.

In appearance, please note that the Egyptian Mau isn't so... bland, but obviously the Kitten Creator is limited In actuality, this breed is elegant and beautiful to the eyes. Three colors can be shown in championship classes: Silver, bronze, and smoke. It can also come in other colors which are acceptable for registration, but not show.

The Egyptian Mau have a graceful stride. Their spotted bodies are accompanied by banded legs and tail, expressive gooseberry (green) eyes, "mascara" lines.

It is also the only naturally-spotted breed of domestic cat! Other spotted breeds, like the Ocicat or Bengal, are the result of outcrosses with other domestic breeds or with wildcats.

Oh... the blue flower upon Tahirah's head is meant to represent the blue lotus which represented the union between Upper and Lower Egypt. It also existed in the primordial void, arising from nothingness, according to Egyptian mythology. It is now referred to as the blue Egyptian water lily/sacred water lily (Nymphaea caerulea), not a lotus, but still

Note: Mau is the Egyptian word for cat. However, this may be inaccurate. I found other sources claiming that the word should be transliterated to miw ...Hmm, like Mew the pokemon? j/k

Yeah... I'm a cat fanatic. Sue me.

I love Egyptian Maus

I also love ancient Egypt.

nice kitty! I once thought my cat was an egyptian mau cat but she was actually a California spankled cat. I love both breeds including the snow shoe and tabby cat.

Heheh, Gotta love the Egyptian Maus! I would love to have one as part of the family, but alas, that seems like an impossible addition. Still, very cute kitten, Val! Nice touch with the blue lotus flower, by the way .
