Commissioned trade with . She is quite fond of hummingbirds, and truth to tell, so am I.
I was going for decorative effects rather than motion on this one. I had a thought in the beginning to try to capture the zippy, flame-dance motion of a hummer in flight, but I didn't like any of the scribblings I'd done. I instead decided to do a stop-motion capture with a very, very fast pencil...

I really like the way that pastels blend together, but I hate the dust. I've found that colored pencils are the next best thing.

I have a love for hummingbirds myself I've been meaning to draw one but never get around to it.
I have to say my favorite one will always be "the Dr. Bird" [The Jamaica national bird] I never did find out why it was called the doctor bird but needless to say it is a beautiful hummer.... When I get money I think I'm gonna commission you to draw me one XD Maybe with the national flower in the background along with the Jamaican Anthem or something... Don't know yet

Iridescence was always one of the big challenges I faced when I was first learning to color. Now that I have the hang of it, I love to use it in stuff like this. Glad you like it!

That's one of the things I really like about the Prismacolors - the lead is soft and thick and it blends almost like oil pastels. The Prismas, however, can hold a fine point - unlike oil pastels - so I can work on a much smaller scale with them.

This is true, it seems though that the reds and greens are best at that thick color for me zan any others

No kidding! That speedhax0rz of theirs requires that they refuel every 10 to 15 minutes to keep up with their ultrafast metabolism. Can't ever migrate far from the ol' bird feeder if you're a hummer.
