Long-overdue requested pic for .These are his Predator character's three sons, Set'gin Thei-de, Yeyinde and Kot'yai.
I was not at all pleased with the way this picture was going, but I never could put my finger on what went wrong. Maybe it just looked too cluttered. I think I alleviated the problem (though I don't think I managed to actually *fix* it) by cropping the image down to a sort of Kodak Moment.
Yes. Smile for the camera, boys.
Accomplished with ink, watercolor and colored pencil.

LOL - Not so sexy as the Predator figure studies, but it was a nice excuse to squash a bunch of Predators inside one composition.

that is so awsome. your preditor art just makes me drool. i love the differenve between the brothers but how your eyes are drawn to the middle/older one cause of the sword.

Okay.. so one of the things that I always got yelled at when I first started working at SEAR PORTRAIT STUDIO *caff caff horrrk* was 'lining 'em up for the shot'. What I was later told is that triangles and diamond shapes are more appeasing to the eye - that having heads chin to eye or top to nose (or where the nose would be on a human face) gave it a good 'sell'. Heh. That would be a formal shot... but if you could find some really kick ass photos in some mags they really find ways to fit those angles in.
The portrait studio job wasn't that bad - laid back if anything ... I just look back at this christmas and cringe... over and over. I'd take being Yaujta bait anyday over dealing with parents frothing at the mouth to get that 'perfect shot'. 
Rakai's boys... wow! I love the colors btw.... notice how their the color of their own blood almost.... I like that.. 'tis very cool. I would have a pred character the same color ^^

Quite a formidable trio. 
A tiny quibble I have with this piece is how very subtle the coloration of the armor and background when compared to the brothers' skin tones; they don't seem quite as vibrant. But it could be that I'm suffering from brain fatigue.

...Considering that these three seem to have a disproportionate amount of human *in* them, that makes perfectly good sense. But you'd have to badger Rakai for the details.

Hrm. It does look great. Maybe there are too many contrasting areas or areas that are trying to vye for being the first thing your eye is drawn too. It's like the colors can't make up their mind which is the most important because they are all trying to be the most important so your eye gets confused thinking about where to start.
I still think it's a great picture. I just love your color pallette.
