A creature inspired by AVATAR ^^ [Download for 1500x790px version] [see other image colour variation [link] ]Name ideas for this critter would be much appreciated!
After seeing the movie, I really wanted to try creating a creature inspired by Pandora's environment. This particular beastie primarily hunts Mountain Banshees- hence the huge wing-tearing claws and tusks. Its thick mane of tendrils helps guard its neck from aerial attacks, as well as multiple poisonous spines along its head and tail. Its claws and prehensile tendrils help it to climb the Hallelujah mountains, and its long tail allows for balance. Powerful legs help it to jump great distances between the floating rocks- which is what it's doing in this particular picture. As well, it can flare out its tendrils in an almost peacock-like display, thus mesmerizing its prey as it moves in for the kill
Further revisions of this piece might be underway (adding in floating mountains in the bg and such) but I think I'm done working on it for now.
(btw #TheNaviAvatars this is *not* a contest submission- since I'm contributing to the prizes I think it rules me out from entering? xD)

Amazing design and a very interesting concept. I could see his strong claws scaling walls with no worry. I love how you have done the reflection highlights on his skin and the glowing dreadlock tenticles mane.

Though, you have no need to fear because 1) my critter isn't a contest submission and 2) I think your entry is pretty freakin' awesome anyways! xD I love your creature's design and the pose and colours as well. I could totally imagine it gliding through the forests of Pandora, it'd fit right in 
Aaaand my pic was digitally painted from scratch, and it took FOREVER. It was only my inspiration from the movie that kept me going, elsewise I woulda quit early on xD

When you say "FOREVER", would that perhaps mean... a week or so? anyways it still look great, the more time put into it the better I'd say
I still would of been happy with you submitting this into the competition; it helps people like me strive to do better and "out do" others with great talent.
even thought it isn't part of the comp, I'll still treat it like one so as to reach my absolute potential.
I've still got to texture this guy properly, even though the current textures already work really well for it.

You've totally inspired me to create my own Pandora-inspired critter. The wildlife on that planet blew me away. And I loved how tons were six-legged.
But wicked design, tons of awesome components that work great with each other. And the colour. Everyone knows which colour is my fave lawl xP

Amazing, I was really inspired by the movie too, I want to make an avatar and creatuure of my own, the landscape is really good in the film; lets your imagination spread.

Oh its soo badass looking xD mix a bunch of letters together and make up some sounds that flow together. I always do that lol. Its so powerful looking, I like the tendrils and face
